For interest's sake I 've megamiled mine for a full tank (have 30 miles left) by using ECOPRO all the time and have got 710 miles out of the tank.

That's mighty impressive.

Well (I don't have Eco pro) but this morning country roads it took 8 miles from starting for oil to be at 100degrees.

Seems like a big difference to Eco pro and clearly mine is then ready to use properly from that point. If someone is taking nearly 20 miles to get to operating temps and then turn it off I wonder if that's really the best option.
I think the reason that Eco pro takes so long to warm the oil is because it keeps the engine ticking over at around 1000rpm especially since i'm not doing more than 40-50 and its usually 5c or under when I start out - yesterday it was only 4c when I came back. Even at 70 in comfort you are at 1500ish rpm.

Away 75% of the engine damage occurs during warm-up according to the oil companies, however other websites claim that running the engine at almost idle gently during warmup minimises wear. The only thing that seems consistent is running a cold engine hard causes lots of damage.

Because of the relatively bad comsumption on F335d in the winter so far, I've mainly reverted back to the other diesel which sees between 62-65mpg in the same conditions/journey and SWMBO gets to play with a straight six for her 70 miles round trip frown
The revs at 70mph are the same whether your in Eco pro, comfort, comfort + or sport, as long as the car's in top gear. For what it's worth, my 530d gets the oil up to temperature inside of 10 miles, whatever mode it's in and the fuel consumption doesn't seem any different summer to winter. Are you sure you don't have another issue?

Yeah, but do bear in mind that I live 500 yards from the motorway, and work 500 yards from the motorway at the other end, and have therefore been sat at 70mph constantly in ECO PRO to get that. It's been excruciating rofl

The irony is that my work pay all my fuel hehe

So 740 miles from 57ltrs (or 12.49 gallons)

Doesn't that mean that the tank average mpg is ....740/12.49=59.24mpg.... Out of a 4.7 second car to 62mph!!! 313bhp.

Mighty impressive.

Yeah but do bear in mind this was an excruciating process, and nowhere near real world!!!

Didn't you set cruise on for 70mph?

But are we talking about a 335d here? That does indeed have a 57 litre tank but got a feeling the range quoted may relate to a 535 which has a 70 litre tank....

Ah... Ok in which case 740 miles equates to 48.3mpg. Still bloody good but not as good as the assumed 57ltr tank...

So just under 50mpg. Still cracking effort.

OK crunch time. For those of you who are currently running a 335d/435d would you buy another, or would you go for the 335i/435i (possibly soon to become the 340/440i)?
Not a chance would I move to a 335i from a 335d. The 335d is a far better car for me and I plan to keep it. I expect the 340i to be a significant improvement though, so if my car was stolen or written off and I needed a replacement, I would look at the 335d and 340i.

Unless you need 4wd I'd say 340i/440i. The new engine will be more powerful than the diesel, almost certainly more refined and, with better fuel consumption and range compared to the 335i, it's difficult to see what significant advantage the 35d will offer. However, bearing in mind the imminent arrival of the new engine I wouldn't be buying a 335i unless the deal was out of this world!

That has made me smile thanks!! thumbup

If work pay for fuel you need to get a nice E63 AMG instead! driving there must be some criteria as to why you are not running a high capacity/high cylinder petrol engine then I would imagine.

Yeah, anything I like with less than three litres and four doors or more.

Next one is going to be an E80 M3.

Lol check our the BIK on the car and then on the fuel card of en E63 Merc. Eye watering to the point it would be far cheaper to buy it yourself.
