just left this on the alpina forum but thought id share in case anyones interested
Having had my wheels refurbed by lepsons some months ago they had accumulated some stubborn brake dust despite being regularly cleaned with bilberry.
with the benefit of some time i thought id try to get them a bit cleaner whilst they were off the car for the winter. heres a summary of what i did for anyone that might be interested
- liberally rinse with apc and warm water using detailing brush and noodle mit, 2 bucket method
- allow to dry
- apply tardis to inside and outside and leave to dwell
- warm up bilt hamber claybar and work each wheel with liberal doses of quick detailer
- rinse again with apc solution
- spray on dragons breath and allow to dwell
- rinse off dragons breath
- allow to dry and check work
- some stubborn tar spots needed more attention so went nuclear on them
- final rinse and allow to dry and finish with microfibre
- dress walls with autoglym rubber dressing and store
in the final step, ill run the claybar over them again before applying a good coat of fk1000p before sticking them back on the car
it really is a pita job to do and the brake dust only started to shift once i got at the wheels with the clay bar
they do look good and will look better once ive put the sealant on

Well now you mention it...
Had new rear discs and pads fitted to my 2003 330Ci.
Engine warning light also stuck on. Garage has recommended replacement of 'all 3 cats'. 3??
...and the cost is 'around £1,500 Sir'.
'Oh and by the way, one of your rear springs is broken'.
Purely for research purposes I checked on WBAC and they offered £1,300...

Springs are a piss easy DIY.
What light is on? Yellow EML?
Do you know what the code is?
Yep EML. Had it a few months ago but eventually went off. Haven't seen code but it is repeat of last time. First task is to put some cat cleaner in the fuel and see if that sorts it.What light is on? Yellow EML?

Car always has good quality Super put into it and cat failure doesn't seem to be a common problem so I'm sceptical about the garage's advice.
replaced the perished fuel pressure regulator hose on my E46.
The jobs a right pain in the arse! as it runs up into the engine bay from the filter/regulator located in the middle of the car by the exhaust.
The jobs made slightly more difficult by not having access to a lift/ramps so I employed the assistance of a rather high kerb
it seems to have cured the shudder on start up, but will be sure when I start it from cold after work and not wile warmish.
It also looks to have cured the below 2500rpm power loss I had. Only a good blast accelerating in a high gear will tell

Lovely Mark, can't beat a period radio in something a bit older
Thank you The radio is listed on the original bill of sale so anything modern with flashing lights would just never do! The issue I had was trying to track another unit down, apparently this model was standard fit for some Ferrari's of the era which of course made it tricky to locate and expensive. It had to be right though

^^^ A lot of crimes against stereos commited in the last decade or so . Make sure to post some pics when you have it all installed
Wish the Bavaria CD in my E30 would behave itself, but I still love the period look of it in the dash
I may have been guilty of a few of them in the past Wish the Bavaria CD in my E30 would behave itself, but I still love the period look of it in the dash

I will post some pics up when it's all back in, I'm just waiting on a new digital clock or being able to fix the old one which is permanently on 12' o clock. Gotta love old cars

I might have too, but nothing like a bit of ranting from a reformed character! . Actually, I reckon the Alpine I put in my Saab back in the mid-90s would be pretty cool again by nowI will post some pics up when it's all back in, I'm just waiting on a new digital clock or being able to fix the old one which is permanently on 12' o clock. My 6-button OBD is always on "--:--". I don't go near it as trying to find yet another replacement one doesn't appeal much now they're NA
