Fitted a new knob to my E46 M3. It is the one from the F10 M5 and it looks so much better.

Will give it a test drive tomorrow.

Sorry, facebook won't let me share the picture but if you search on google there are quite a few pics where people have fitted them. The pics look generally the same as mine.

I think the knob is similar to E46 Club sport version but with the M5 one you get a full leather gaiter and the top is illuminated (just pugs into existing connection), whereas I do not think the club sport version is.

E39 525i: replaced the viscous coupling, water pump, thermostat and both drive belts which I discovered were "at imminent risk" while I had the rad out.

E36 328 cab: got it out of the garage to go for the drive belts. The long way round. driving

Now if only I knew where I left my phone...

Had rear tyres fitted, Vredestiens, washed it, cleaned with gunk the bonnet mechanism because it's sticking, didn't work, any tips on how to adjust it gratefully received.

Had the alignment done today. The rears were out by some margin.

All of a sudden, it is a fine handling car.

Had a busy day with the 330 yesterday...

I picked it up last week after having it's bumpers repainted (stone chips and car park scuffs) so yesterday it had it's spring detail new exhaust trim fitted (the diffuser has been painted gloss black and the old trim looked knackered), BMW Perfromance steering wheel cover fitted to replace the worn stock one and a BMW Performance carbon air intake was fitted.

The air intake is really nicely made but probably not worth what BMW charge for it (I got a good discount from my local dealer). I originally wanted the exhaust but that was going to be very expensive because my E90 was built pre June 06, meaning that the centre section would need changing too. The intake does seem to have added a bit more noise (in a good way) and I'm sure that the throttle response is a bit better but its probably just a placebo effect.

I've heard my e46 320i auto make a weird crunch noise and lurch when in reverse, and now an awful thrumming noise from somewhere under the centre console when i accelerate.

Some thanks after treating it to some new berry scented screenwash! Ungrateful car!

Changed the drivers side window regulator on my e46'loon. An easy job it looks. A massive potch and pain in the arse it was!!

Much frustration and shouting at the moisture seal thingy ensued.

And I'll hold my hands up to having a brief 2 minutes rant at the window for not auto raising. Until it clicked that it doesn't auto close while the door is open rolleyes

Have the passenger side to do now but that might have to wait until after the mot. The drivers needed doing as I was fed up of getting out of the car to use the barrier system in work.

Not so much today, as on Friday....

Found out the 19 inch rear on my wifes just-out-of-warranty z4 has three cracks in it.

Took it to our local dealer, being covered by BMW as a "goodwill gesture" (yes, we all know its a common fault on the 19 inch rim with runflats) and as the wheel is currently out of stock in BMW Germany, BMW are hiring her a replacement BMW until the rim becomes available (could be several weeks) so she doesnt have to drive the car on a cracked rim. On top of that, the dealer has lent her a car until BMW UK get the hire car sorted after easter.

Removed the new regulator that has failed after just over 24hrs mad and fitted the old broken one back on, but temporarily repaired it with the cable tie method, not going to get new ones and fitted in time before the MOT due to work commitments. So as long as it holds until after then I'll know how much car fund I've got to use for parts (I'm not expecting a fail, but you never know)

Picture of the failure to the new one - :

First in a long time that I've been let down with parts off eBay. Guessing theres a reason they were less than half the price of my local motorfactors and ECP rolleyes

Checked the manufacture date on the old air filter.

April 2004.

This would explain the colour.

Would BMW UK care to comment on the practise of not changing these - but changing the micro filter - each service?

Well not today but at the weekend...

I've been recommisioning my late fathers e36 convertible, having sat in a barn for 4 years.

Fixed the power roof.. with constant referrals to you tube and various forums. Transformed from firmly stuck shut to working like clockwork... I was rather pleased with myself! Feel free to contact me on this... I learned a few bits and pieces.

Once that was done I set about replacing all the seats... scrubbed every inch inside and now its looking much more presentable.

Next jobs are: water pump.. new plugs, oil change, new brakes and tyres..

Well, if we're including the weekend.... smile

Replaced the o-ring in the air box / MAF junction, plus the o-rings in the oil breather balance pipe and the rubber caps on the back of the inlet manifold.

12 year old car, so they were all a bit perished/compressed.

Handed over a large amount of money to my increasingly pleased to see me local specialist after the EGR cooler split on Wednesday and had both the stats changed at the same time.
