E87 1 series rear brake binding

Hello all,

Has anyone had any experience of a binding or seized caliper on the rear?

I have a 123D M-sport and appear to have a left hand rear brake caliper binding as when I return from a run it smells and if i pop a little water on the disc it steams!

Any similar stories or info is much appreciated!

I have the same car as you, and very rarely notice the same smell. Have done nothing about it as I notice it maybe once a month. Can't seem to isolate under what conditions it happens though. Would be interested in any feedback from others.

I have the e82 123d coupe, have the exact same problem but it's the front left that seems to be the issue, have you guys had any luck sorting the issue?

If your caliper is seizing you need to replace it or rebuild it with new seals and or/piston. Some people will say you just need to clean the sliders, this rarely fixes the problem.
