I'm on the point of pulling the trigger on a deal on the above car.

Seems a good deal at £500 deposit and £410 per month. Bit worried there is a new model coming out. Any views on this car in terms of day to day running and enjoyment.

Many thanks

Hello buddy, this is new I guess...so has it got the old N47 engine? Be aware there is a new 2 ltr diesel the B47 that is in a few new models and will filter into all the range. If it has please realise you will be buying a new car with an old engine.

Another key difference is that the pre facelift model is manual transmission only whereas the facelift is auto only. I had a test drive in one and really liked it apart from the fact that my left foot bushed the footrest every time I depressed the clutch.

We've got a 120d (just 2wd) and the auto is absolutely brilliant and well suited to the engine - I would totally recommend it. So if the new model is auto then maybe worth holding out for it.

Or just go for the 2wd, and get winter tyres - it doesn't seem to break traction much anyway.

I've got a manual M3 for reference, so not an auto fanboy....

If it suits your needs then do it!
Personally I would look for a 125d,or better still an M135i with a Birds LSD if you don't do the mileage to justify a diesel.
BMW should really be straight 6, manual and RWD or you might as well get something VAG and save a few quid on the lease.

Thanks for all the feedback; much appreciated.

The missus wants 4 wheel drive so x drive is only option for her. She is used to an Audi Quattro.

We also noticed pedals were close together and could be annoying. Nobody seems to say its a good fun car, worried it may be a bit boring?

The dealer changed his quote (added extra 40 per month) after we shook hands on deal. It was his fault and he wouldn't honour the initial deal, so we walked. See if he comes back to me today.

Do you really need it to be 4WD? I'm sure the money saved could get you into a 125d a bit more punchy & a little bit more enjoyment. Why not get the OH to test drive a 2WD without telling her & see what she thinks

Quick update. Done the deal on 120d xdrive msport. The missus is happy and it seems ok on a test drive. Due to get the car tail end of March.

Thanks for the useful feedback.

GLWTS, but why get an X-drive???
A 120d S-drive on winter tyres is probably more capable in poor conditions, and the M-sport X-drive doesn't get the proper M set-up anyway!
