Hi all,
I have owned my remapped (circa 350bhp - 360bhp) 2006 335i SE for approximately a year now and it's been a brilliant car thus far. I'm in two minds at present, selling it on for maybe a Z4M or Z4 Alpina or spending some money on the 335i, exhaust, induction etc. Any recommendations on what to go for if i decide on the latter would be most appreciated...

How about a LSD, all reviews I've read suggest that adds a more pure driving dimension to the 335iI have owned my remapped (circa 350bhp - 360bhp) 2006 335i SE for approximately a year now and it's been a brilliant car thus far. If your after a proper drivers car experience modding the 335 is s false economy. You need a LSD, antiroll bars, better suspension to get the thing to handle properly....
It'd cheaper and easier to just to get a proper M car. Also remember you wouldn't get that much money back for all the mods your put on car come resale time.
I've spent £6-7k on my 335i, purely because my wife didnt like the attention a M3 would attract.
Strangely now that I have spent so much on my 335 I find the balance of performcnace/handling/ecnomy perfect, and I wouldn't swap mine for a M3....Not unless some one gave me a free one

If you use the car frequently, I would stick with the 335i. Owning a car whose engine needs to be wrung out to get the best from it is frustrating, and that may be what you'd find with an M3. Yes, an M car is 'better' in many ways, but day-to-day it's hard to beat a 335i. Uprating the induction is a waste of time unless you just want the noise. The factory airbox is a good design and is cold air-fed anyway. If you use dual cone intakes in an open engine bay, you're just going to be sucking in even more hot air than it already does. Focus on the suspension mods as the others have described, especially if you already have over 350bhp.

Poly Bushes, Eibach springs & Dampers at nearly 9 years old the suspension will need a refresh(B&C Coilovers are good with the added bonus of new top mounts as well) then get an intercooler this will help with throttle reponse keep your temps down & give you more power, then I'd sort the Induction with the K&N twin filter system, finally I#d do the exhaust(I've had some who've left it stock) which will give you an extra 20-40 depending on which way you'd like to go PM me if you need more details.I have owned my remapped (circa 350bhp - 360bhp) 2006 335i SE for approximately a year now and it's been a brilliant car thus far. +1 on the above, induction is a waste of money, and the chassis is where you should spend the money (Birds if you can afford it as it's brilliant - more control and more comfort - best of both worlds)Only engine mod I'd say is worth It (especially as you are mapped) would be a better intercooler. The Forge one I had fitted to my unmapped 135i made a big difference.

All of these 'mods' will detract significant value from the car as people like to buy original. Better to sell it at market value now and buy a Z4M. Depends if you want plug play and forget or whether you like tinkering and want to tune further later on?If remap once only and forget, I'd go the tried and tested route of DMS or Evolve.
If you want to tweek, tune and tinker etc., then the Cobb Tuning route is very popular.

Thanks for the replies guys, I don't do big mileage in it, 1.5k-2k max per year, w/end car but some helpful food for thought there. As I said previous it's been a great car since I bought it but I do find it a little refined compared to many of my past w/end rides, Evo's, RS's etc.

Ah in that case I would say forget mods and sell to get the M you want. It's a fun car I drive for pleasure but not an obvious weekend only car, in my opinion. I love mine but went for it because it's a 17-20k p/a daily driver. Decision time looming...

Best thing about the 335i, is its day to day usability, if your hardly driving it sell it and get some more exciting. Prices on 335i have been solid for the last 12 months, so your get decent money for a well looked after one. In your situation I wouldn't waste any money on mods....unless you strip it down to a track day toy Decision time looming...

There are quite a few people who are happy to by an upgraded car not as many who like "standard" but they are out there I've never had any problems selling cars with upgrades.It always comes down to the nature of the modifications. Sensibly modified cars shouldn't have any problem selling - basic suspension upgrades - uprated springs and dampers, bigger intercooler and a remap - these shouldn't put anyone off. You can always argue the point that people modify cars to drive them hard, but it is a 335i after all - and it will have been driven hard in its life standard or otherwise.

I've had an Evolve map on my manual N54 E92 since late 2011. Delighted with it.
From the sellers point of view you don't recoup much of the cost of the mods but as Rdawson says, its all about the nature of the mods. What are the mods, who has carried them out and how has the car been driven ?. There's enough info available about who the most reputable modifiers are but its difficult to find information you can trust about how the car's been driven.
Being old probably helps when you're a selling on. Buying privately from a mature enthusiast is probably a good bet ; its no guarantee but older owners are probably less likely to be driving like they stole it, are more likely to drive with a little more mechanical sympathy when the car's cold and they probably have a healthier maintenance budget too.
I've just turned 50 and plan to sell mine in a month or two; we'll see if being an old seller helps
