Anyone got any more thoughts on the injector issue? Was there a year that they got it resolved so for example all cars from a particular month / year onwards are ok?

It doesn't look like there was a recall so I assume even with a warranty, you would have to wait for them to fail before they are replaced?
I have a 2009 N53 engined E61 530i. Soon after buying in 2013 on 38K miles from a main dealer I had a lot of trouble with rough running. Thankfully under AUC warranty I had all coils, injectors, HPFP, LPFP, Vanos unit, Vanos solenoids, CAT, NOx sensors etc replaced over a period of a couple of months.. This seemed to cure the issue although I am pretty certain the injectors were the cause all along as it was not until they replaced all in one go that the rough running was cured - the other stuff was replaced because that is what the 'fault codes said to do'.. Two years and 20K miles after all the trouble the car seems fine but I would not run an N53 without the extended BMW warranty which I pay for monthly for peace of mind ;-)

Was it fairly easy to get all that replaced under the warranty? i.e. are they well aware of the issues and happy to just change it all? Like you say, if it was just the injectors but they changed all that, perhaps they were just future proofing it against any more problems.

Strangely it was easy to get all of the other bits replaced as they followed the various PUMA's changing whatever the computer said the car required. Unfortunately when starting from cold the car still ran badly so I doubt it needed any of the bits other than the injectors / coils and HPFP. Finally they replaced one injector and then another but that did not cure the rough running when cold (to be fair the dealer was very good as they refused to give me the car back until it was running perfectly and I had one of their loan cars during this time)After a few days of observing the rough running (first thing each morning for about 30 seconds) they got permission from BMW to replace all injectors - that cured the issue. The thing I forgot to list in my original post was they also replaced the cams and cam carriers. The way I look at it now - half my engine is nearly new ;-)

BMW seem to be pretty good with their goodwill on the n53. I bought a e92 n53 330i mpsort about 9 months ago. Rang sytner who have serviced it fro new and they told me back in 2013 it had all new injectors, hpfp and coil packs on goodwill.

it's been a great car for me. Most should have been sorted by now I would have thought.

I just bought a n53 but in an f10 530i, build date Feb 2012. 36k and it is running the original HPFP and injectors (I rang BMW). Coil packs were replaced in 2013 on a quality enhancement. Coilpacks are consumable imo and fairly cheap so not worried about those.

I'll be taking out the comprehensive warranty, paid monthly. Seen the price of a waterpump!! Its not just the injectors/hpfp etc.

Fwiw have had 1 misfire so far, on a really cold morning it can be a little lumpy for about 2 seconds. Will be interesting to see how it fairs through the winter.

Sounds odd at idle, whisper/rattle noise as well as the peizo injector knocking. Really shifts though, and is not bad on fuel (30mpg for me so far biggrin ) and sounds great when pushed/redlined.

All in all v happy with this engine, would only change the idle noise. If I downsize from the f10 barge i'd definitely consider a 330i with the n53.

Agree on the sound at idle, not the best but when pushing on it sounds good and really shifts. Well done on finding an F10 530i, when I replace my E61 will have to look out for an F11 535i as not convinced by the new 4 cylinder 2.0 litre 28i/30i :-(
