Hi Forum members,
Just joined the forum recently and was hoping if I could use your insight. I own a 2008 530d, which has been great so far except for the front driver side alloy wheel. There is a think leak from the alloys, and the wheel drains out from 34-36 PSI to 10-12 PSI. I did check that with a tyre shop who applied some black glue like material to the inside alloys which did work for a month or two and then I am back at square one. The tyre shop advised if I was interested in doing an alloy wheel refurbishment (£65 per wheel) but wouldn't guarantee that would fix the problem. The alloys otherwise are perfectly fine and no scratches/dents what so ever.
Just wondering if anyone in the forum has ever faced a similar situation? If I go for a refurbishment should I just do one v/s 4 (Why fix something which isn't broken mentality)? Please advise.

Regards,
Alok

If it's gone porous or cracked, probably better to get a replacement wheel.

Take it to a specialist refurbishment place and see if they think it can be welded / fixed permanently. If not get a second hand replacement off eBay and have that refurbished to match.

First aid wheels, Lepsons etc would be my first point of call.

I had exactly this problem on my BMW. Black gunge applied in the tyre shop which lasted a couple of months. In the end I bought a wheel on Ebay and two new front tyres from E-Tyres. It's been fine since. I still have the wheel and flat tyre in the shed.

Hi,

It's possible (read likely) your wheel is buckled. This can happen to any road wheel. If you wheels are genuine BMW wheels, then it's worth having a reputable wheel specialist straighten them. If they turn out to be replica wheels, I'd say it's not worth spending money on them, and best to get another set of higher quality wheels.

Here's a specialist I use who are very well recommended for their straightening work on wheels
