hi guys thinking of servicing my 325i, just wondering what grade oil you guys are using in yours, all of my previous bmws ive religiously used castrol edge 5w 30, i phoned my local bmw dealer the other day for a quote on bmw oil, i was quoted 20 something quid a litre, sod that!! i then asked what grade he was refering to and was told my car takes 0w 30? he recommended castrol 0w 30. just tapped in my details on euro car parts and every oil is showing 5w30 but catsrol is showing 0w 30? do i go with the catrol 0w 30 or shall i just buy my usual 5w 30? i understand 0 w 30 is thinner in cooler temps, but summers not far off so what do i do?
also looking at some new spark plugs, do i go with bosch or ngk? think bosch ones are slightly cheaper, but the list price is more then the ngk.

many thanks

I have a E93 330i, so same engine pretty much and I would also like to know if 5w30 would be okay for the car since my service is due next month.

Also does anyone know of any Independent garages/specialists that are able to work on the folding roof? Apparently you need to have a special jig and only suitably qualified people can work on it.

Thanks

Vee

Check the oil specification required in the handbook - I think it is anything rated 'BMW LL-04'
Given we never get to the extremes, 0W or 5W probably won't make any difference

As above, any LL04, available in various grades.

I've got an e93 330i and when mine has been in for servicing at the dealers they've used castrol edge 5w 30

Think I'll stick with Castrol 5w 30, any thoughts about new spark plugs? My car is the defined 3 litre engine, n53 engine, I know they commonly get coil injector faults, at the min the cars running sweet, and I beleive it's had a new 02 sensor last year, I only bought the car in January. Just want to give it a good service for peice of mind, the dealer i bought the car from did service it prior to sale but I know they would've used rubbish oil and plugs, so a once over makes sense. Do you think changing plugs might upset coils and whatever else the cars notorious for failing on?

Cheers

Plug change won't affect coils.

Sweet I was just going by if it ain't broke don't fix it. Didnt want to upset anything in the process, I'll go ahead with it smile just out of curiosity what are you guys averaging fuel wise in the 330i? I've got an auto 325 seeing high 25- high 26, mixed driving, mostly town and a lil motorway blast to work.
