Morning all

Just thought I'd pop on and see if anyone had some sage words of advise before I start tearing the thing apart. The internet seems short on guides or how tos so am going in blind, kind of. I've checked a process for an E39 530i on YouTube which may or may not be anything like close.

Cheers chaps/chapettes.

Yes. Like many BMW engines, the flywheel bolt holes in the crank are open and not blind. If you're doing the job on your back with the front of the car raised up, oil will piss out of the lower two. On reassembly, clean out the bolt holes with carb or brake cleaner and coat the flywheel bolts with tread lock. If you don't, oil WILL wind down the threads and get into the clutch.

Thanks for that much appreciated.

Added to shopping list:

a couple of litres of oil,
new tube of loctite - old one has gone hard.
