BMW 335i N54-N55 ?
Discussion
Fair call, genuine misunderstanding - apologies. I agree though - these engines (N54s especially) get quite a lot of bad press on forums and for every person who has issues, there will be many more who don't. I guess we can only go by the well-publicised faults.

Don't be a dick, I wasn't saying it was awesome, just that you tend to hear about problems with these engines when they go wrong, which overstates their so called unreliability.

Yes golf tee mod - there's a vacuum operated flap in the nearside exhaust which is closed below 3500 rpm. Unplugging the vacuum actuator will keep the flap open all the time, so car is much louder, particularly when cold starting.
There are two ways to do - either unplug in the boot (will create an error code in the ECU, but I've looked at the ECU diagnostics before and it didn't seem too drastic), or put a golf tee in the vacuum tube.
Benefit of unplugging is that it's easy to reverse if going in to the garage, or when doing long motorway drives (the constant drone is a bit annoying on the motorway when the kids are trying to sleep).

I must be the only one who doesn't hear the "drone" on motorways. It sounds no different to me with the GT or without. There are two ways to do - either unplug in the boot (will create an error code in the ECU, but I've looked at the ECU diagnostics before and it didn't seem too drastic), or put a golf tee in the vacuum tube.

I chose to pull the pipe off the solonoid. I couldn't unplug it easily so that was my only option.

Pretty much Smuler that's funny , shoes did come in for a lot of consideration as did a light sweat shirt comfortable but not restrictive , music I figured let the BMW do the sound track after the actuator bypass thanks for the tip lads I had no idea about that and figured I would have to sell my soul for an akrapovic zorst
Anyway forecast is 20c and clear sky what could possibly go wrong
