Move from what reading?
Mine gets to 100-115 fairly quickly and sits there apart from very spirited driving and/or hot days if that's a factor.

Can't give exact distance but I'm sure it's around that by 15 miles tops. and longest regular journey I do is 40 miles.

OK , yes about 15 - 20 miles , just seems a long time before it even moves off the stop

but then I am not used to an oil gauge and seeing how quickly oil warms up so it sounds about right then , Thanks Smuler

Mine starts moving about 5 miles after starting.
Don't forget the temp sensor is in the sump, sitting in the rest of the oil that isn't circulating in the system.

That's a large volume to heat up.

It's not about giving it beans it's about what road speeds you are driving at.

For example, on my 135i, when I used to do a commute where within about a mile of slow urban roads, I then got on a fast moving dual carrigeway, and driving at 60-70mph for the next 10 miles of so. As a result my oil temp would have started moving off the stop within about 4 miles.

Now, I'm doing a commute where I'm driving all on slow speed urban roads barely getting above 30mph for the first 5-6 miles, and in that time my oil temp hasn't budged.

Yes I figured water would heat faster than oil just not that it would take that long smile

I've been weighing up the 335i convertible and was wondering what it's like compared to the coupe? Obviously there's an extra 200kg of weight but with the sports suspension is there any noticeable difference? I've noticed the front seems to look slightly more 'aggressive' on the coupe but maybe that's my imagination?

Chaps how long do you wait before taking it over 3k rpm?

Engine temp needle barely moves, especially on cold mornings, in 15-25 minute trips in stop start traffic with a mix of motorway mongoloid maneuvering.

My specific spirited drives, do follow a preamble during which the car is warmed up, but in a day to day situation, such as yours, I wouldn't hesitate in flooring it, for good reason such as an overtake or the battle with the mad morning motorists.

Just how delicate are the turbos when cold? I have a BMW warranty on it but I just assume it would be an absolute arse ache getting them to honour it if something goes pop. Turbos etc already replaced by previous owner too.

I'm starting to miss my 325/330's ability to warm up in 5 minutes frown

I go above 3krpm after about 5 miles which in town is about 10-15mins.
It gets more when the oil temp needle moves.

Did the 325/330 have an oil temp gauge?

335d doesn't. Unless I've somehow missed it...
