Hi - the sex5 's front tyres are close to being finished and bmw quoted me £310 a tyre to replace the Dunlop sport maxx 275 40 20 w - the cheapest I could find them was halfrauds at £210 fitted. However the kumho and hankooks were as low as £135 fitted - are these still good tyres? Is it worth the price differential?
Any advice appreciated!
Thanks

At those prices are the Kuhmo's and Hankook's run flats, or are you switching away from run flats?

I put kuhmo's on our E53 X5 over a year ago & have had no problems. I researched them before buying & they had a C rating throughout for economy, grip, wet conditions etc which proved better than some of the better brands & whilst I'm no expert they certainly don't give off any road noise in my view. I constantly check for uneven wear as I know X5's can suffer & so far all is good.
Even speaking to the local Bmw specialist, the guy there who runs it tends to recommend Kumho's which to me says something.
If your not on a budget then by all means choose a well known make, but if your after saving some money then do some research & definitely look at the Kumho's in my view.
At the end of the day though it's your choice .

I've put Kumho om my 35d, they're fine. I've used them before with good grip and mileage. Hankook are now OE on C class Merc.

thanks all - not sure if the non-dunlop are runflats as I'm using tyrepriceadvisor.com and they don't stipulate - i presume not, which then raises the question of whether i should go non runflat on the front and stay runflat on the back till those tyres wearout?

Are the Kumho's and Hankock's the correct load rating ?

I just switched my x5 from runflats to non-RFT Michelin Latitude Sport 3s - they've transformed the ride, and all four (from oponeo) cost less than 2 OEM tyres from a BMW dealer.

We are on Bridgestone Duellers at the moment, they were on the car when we bought it. Might try the Michelins next

Thanks Technomad - I have a best price of £193 fitted for the Michelins per tyre as opposed to £310 fitted for the Dunlop runflats - I presume Id have to do all 4, rather than keep the runflats on the back and go non-runflat on the front even though the backs still have a fair bit of life left in them?
Will nonrfts invalidate the warranty does anyone know?

Kwik fit however will do the two fronts in Dunlop SP Sport Maxx RFTs (exactly what they have on now) for £426 fitted by a mobile fitter which is £200 less than BMW!!
I think I'll go this way.
Thanks for all your help everyone

Non run flats will not invalidate your warranty, nor will they invalidate your insurance.

They will give you better ride quality and it might save you cracking your alloy wheels, without a spare wheel or any means to change it you'll be pretty fked if you have a puncture.
