Decent car cleaning gear?
Discussion
If you want a really simple process, try this:
1. Wash with Autoglym bodywork shampoo and conditioner
2. Polish with Autoglym super resin polish applied using a sponge applicator pad
3. Seal/wax with Collinite 845 – which is a liquid sealant so easy to apply evenly and fairly easy to buff off as well.
Try and put 2 or 3 layers of polish on it before then doing 2 coats of sealant.

Aa above and try some Meguiars trye gel (in the purple bottle) on all the black stuff. Designed for tyres but also great on wheel arch liners where you can see them around the wheels, black rubbing strips and trims (like the roof rails on my X5). Normal domestic window glass cleaners are great on the glass inside and out.
However clean and shiny the car gets, it will still look dirty with brown tyres and grey wheel arch liners.

Easy..? just leave the collinite bottle in warm water to soften and liquify then shake well before use 1. Wash with Autoglym bodywork shampoo and conditioner

Autoglym (AG to save typing it everytime) HDWax is also well reviewed but needs some elbow grease to get off when dry.
cheers for all the feed back guys, i bought some autoglym srp polish earlier along with auto glym shampoo and conditioner, seeing as halfords where doing 3 for 2 i opted for meguiars deep crystal carnauba wax (stage 3 in the step process they do), i know its probably not the greatest wax but i like the fact its not a paste, thick liquid suits me fine- also halfords did not stock the suggested collinite wax, and autoglym hd wax was almost 40 quid, bit too steep for my liking as im still in experimenting stages, do you guys think this is a okay combo ive chosen? or is throwing meguiars wax into the mix a big no no>? also i only bought 3 sponges and 3 packs of microfibre cloths (15 in total) i was hoping to do all the work with just microfibre cloths is this okay? i should i buy a fancy round applicator pad? sat at work right now learning the tricks of the trade on youtube, im getting way into this malarky lol
i spotted this on tescos website, worth a punt?

AG extra gloss protection doesn't last very long.
Personally if you want a good start up kit from halfords go for AG bodywork shampoo and conditioner followed by 2 coats of SRP and then finish with 2 coats of HD wax.
The wax is great, 2 layers can last up to 6 months without needing to be re-done and it's pretty much foolproof to apply and remove.

+1 You get what you pay for and on the 3 for 2 offer at halfords it makes it a bit more affordable.Wouldn't bother with the machine unless you have a shelf in the garage that you can leave it on to gather dust.
So meguiars no good then? As ive already purchased it all now? Probably buy the gd wax next time round, or am I just wasting my time altogether? Also as stars in my first post on this thread, I got some diamondbrite protection already applied, shall I just ignore and carry on as usual, I'm assuming the autoglym srp will remove a lot of it?

Nothing wrong with it - it just probably won't last as long.Use what you have and see how you get on.
Be careful with the machine polisher. If it is done badly, you can make a real mess of the paint. Mine had been polished with a machine before I got it and it was a mess. I did a bit of research and found DDB detailing were very highly recommended on here. DDB spent a very long day sorting out the paint. I could not believe the change in colour once all the scratches were removed. Before and after:
