Anyone seen any videos or review of what happens when these two meet each other on the road in terms of performance? Which would win?

Interesting question, that there 335d is no slouch. However, I bet I know what the answer would be to: 'Which one would be more fun?'

Wait for the 340i and it'll have a chunk more to than the current 335i.

Good point although the same may be said about the LCI '340d' too. It will be interesting to see how they are both revised.

It's been a few hours since this was posted and Welshbeef still hasn't replied, can we send out a search party?

I'm not certain that they'll be changing the 335d, I saw that the 340i was listed on some BMW system but 335d was still listed.

Or if they do change it, maybe not drastically.

I'd read somewhere that it was only going to be an extra 20hp. If true, seems a bit pointless?

Will it be the same engine that is in the M235i? 322bhp which is more powerful than the M135i?

No, the engine in the M135i/M235i is the same engine that's in the 335i at the moment (the N55). Not sure why it gets slightly more power in the smaller cars (that's always seemed a bit bizarre to me!) but the 340i will be a different engine entirely. I thought people were talking about that giving around 340-350bhp in which case a reasonable increase over the current 335i; personally I think you'd be mad to buy a new 335i now unless you were getting a very good deal!

I think the extra power output for the smaller cars is a reflection of the fact that they are positioned as 'sub M' cars rather than run of the mill models.

It will definitely be interesting to see what happens to the 335i. Personally I'd hope it's 340-350bhp, available manual/auto and also RWD/xDrive as the 330d is, rather than auto only and xDrive only as the 335d is.

triple hehe

doesn't matter as the diesel will always have more torque with no downsides and if you disagree you cant drive. end of thread. smile

Seriously I think a test drive of both and you will know what you want. Both are quick in their own right.

No point, everyone knows a 335d will leave a 335i for dead whilst also being capable of doing 50mpg at a steady 100mph - no contest and therefore any videos would just be boring.... wink

Not talking about remapped 335ds but the newer F30 variant?

BMW 435i xDrive vs BMW 335d xDrive Touring.

No discernible difference in performance between the two cars in my view.

I think the piece at the end said it all the engine in the 335i is just better imho, a diesel always lets you know it's a diesel at some point, nothing luxurious or sporty about that clatter.
