A guy on e90post will update firmware for £100 and I'm hoping my local Indy can do it too.I'm not opposed to paying for it though.

if you want the idrive upgrade you need a LCI model, i think they're from late 2008 onwards. Way to tell is the rear lights are all red instead of red with clear indicators.
This only applies to Saloon and Touring. Effectively any Saloon, Touring, Coupe or Cab BUILT after September 2008 and fitted with Pro Nav will have CIC iDrive not the crap older one. This means there is some 18 months worth of pre LCI Coupe and Cab with CIC fitted. Remember, its cars built after September 08 not just registered, there are quite a few late registered 09 plate cars made before September 08.
