Discussion
Hello, I have had permission from his wife to post the following:
On another note, thank you on behalf of his wife for the donations on much loved for Lymphoma Association.
If anyone else wishes to contribute the link is here:

Edited to Add: on a personal level I was disappointed with the decision as I was a member and received support but after our conversations I understand her decision. It was a coincidence when I found out he was the owner as I met his wife via our sons sporting activities.

After much thought and discussions, we have taken the decision to close BMWLand following the death of the site owner, Matt Hinton.
We have read all the kind comments about how the site was a reflection of Matt and we feel that without him it would become a faint echo of the community it was instead of a lasting memorial to his passion and commitment. It was his hobby and no one else in the family feels they could live up to his legacy.
On a technical level, the site coding was entwined in the family server and will be incredibly difficult to separate it out. No one in the family has the skills to do this and due to the personal and private nature of other items held on the servers, we do not wish to open this up to outside the family. During Matt’s illness he did not take the time to separate out the site himself so we are not sure that he wanted it to be run outside the family after he had gone.
Whilst it will not continue in its current guise, anybody wishing to start a similar forum to continue where Matt left off would do so with the family’s blessing and support."
I am happy to answer any questions myself where I can, or ask Mrs Hinton but I am afraid the decision is final. We have read all the kind comments about how the site was a reflection of Matt and we feel that without him it would become a faint echo of the community it was instead of a lasting memorial to his passion and commitment. Thanks for the update and clarification, Kate - I, and I suspect many others, had a feeling this would be the eventual outcome.
A huge pity but, given the circumstances you report, understandable.
Please pass on my/our thanks to Mrs Hinton with apologies for any additional distress caused.

As Matt's wife has kindly given her blessing to the launch of a new site to continue bmwland's legacy has anyone the time, energy and importantly the capability to launch a 'bmwland-lives-on' forum.
I'm sure there are more creative people out there who could come up with a better name but my thinking is if 'bmwland' is in the title search engines will pick it up and it should quickly gain traction with old members.

Only just found this thread. Id seen the sad news re Matt on the site for a while and not known where to post. Just to add the site run by Matt was brilliant, he was very highly regarded and it was a great community there.
I do notice a few familiar usernames here (spuff etc.) and do hope there is some kind of fitting replacement.

I appear to be having problems with sending PM's
Hi Rick, the problem MIGHT be that on some forums you need a minimum number of posts in order to send Pms, not sure if that applies to PH.......As posted earlier in the thread, I'd be pleased to hear from former 'Landers too, and good luck to Osinjak in getting some sort of site in the same spirit of the 'Land up and running - I'd certainly be subscribing.
Cheers for now, John [aka s_b_f ]
