88' 735iL gear shifter lockout rod troubles, Help

The lockout rod in my 1988 735iL, I went to the dealership and they gave me the wrong One. They gave me the E32/E34 lockout rod and it's too short. The parts guy is trying to find the right One, I showed him the right One and he shipped One from Germany... It was still the wrong One, so being out of luck, I'm here to see if anyone can give me some help figuring it out. Thank you
