Why do they bother with the back seats? genuine q look completely unusable to me ,maybe wrong of course.I love the look of the GC
My daughter is very happy in her BMW car seat in the back of the car - I've got a Coupe too.

Admittedly she sit's behind my wife's seat and she is 5ft 2" but it is useable.

I regularly swap between a E90 3 series and a 640d and the 640 feels like a boat in comparison.
I've driven a 4 series and it doesn't feel any different to me size wise, in fact over a 435d it is nicer to drive too.

But externally it's a big beast but after 6 months it feels normal to me.

That's right, the two rear seats of the 6-series coupe should be considered as (very) temporary seats for adults and if people at the front are tall (e.g. I am 6 foot 4) and seating (actually very) comfortably, only young children or yoga practitioners (access is not exactly easy) will fit in them.

My only real gripe is the mechanism to fold the front seats, which is poorly located almost at the back of the seat and requires more strength than my wife can muster.

Also, the steering is really lifeless but again this is a big barge of a cruiser so who cares?

I adored the 640d and would have gone for one over my 435d had it have been on the list at the time...

Easily BMW's nicest looking car right now.

+1

I went in for an M3, didn't like it (coming from a C63), then decided 435d and was quickly swayed to looking at a 640d and they cleverly gave me one for 3 days which helped seal the deal.

Unfortunately it isn't an option for me.

I was in a minority (I think) in that I liked the older shape too.

I had two older shape six series, the last one being the 635D before buying the 640D. The 635D was definitely more lively, but as a cruise ship the 640D wins hands down. In my view the marketing dept positioned the 640D much better than the 635D (which wanted to be good at too many things). Of course, BMW was also greedy, which did not help sales. But the 640D is such a departure from the older model that the market might still need to realise this simple fact.

I could buy many other cars to cruise down to Southern France but have yet to find a good reason to. With the low dB, the Bang and Olufsen stereo (good, but not that good), space to stretch my frame and 40mpg, only my prostate and nice restaurants determines when I need to stop smile

Now that sort of trip sounds like I'd leave the 640d at home and grab the keys for the i8...driving

Now that sounds like a plan yes

However for me, 3000 miles, 3 weeks across Europe in an M5 cloud9

Yep I'd prefer the space and 4.4 V8 in the M5 to the 1.5ltr i8 I'm afraid, nice looking thing but a pain to get in and out of.

Spent ages considering a 6 Series but eventually came to the conclusion that however nice it was, having a car that was so big outside while so small inside was daft.

It massively depends what you are after.

A BMW 6 series can't be compared to a 3/4 series, after all the 6 series is a touring car. I have a 6 series and for churning miles from London to the south of france/Italy its perfect for 3 reasons:
1) Its a touring car with a good amount of boot space (Compared to a Jaguar XKR for example)
2) Engine is perfect for bomming around country roads as well as motorway driving (Its never going to be as fast as an M3/M4 for example)
3) Comfortable for touring (comparison bieng seats in an Aston which I don't feel are as comfortable)
