A 6yr old loaded 3 Series isn't an obvious choice for that sort of use.
Sure it is - ideally suited with the BMW AUC warranty on it.
That'll only last a year unless renewed at significant cost.

Anyway, kids need to be taken to school by SUV.

You can usually get 2 years out of them. It's then renewalable at reasonable cost on a 3 Series.

I have an 08/08 320d at the moment, its done over 108000miles but I've kept it on a rolling monthly BMW warranty.
Not really interested in an suv, loads in the school car park though, i avoid parking in the carpark if possible,I've seen/heard of too many accidents involving normally FFRR and mummies in high heels. One woman has to park in 2 spaces as she can't get her 4x4 in a single space, i avoid her the most, then theres the woman that reversed her RR over the bonnet of a pug 206cc, dangerous place the school car park.

pug 206cc,
I suppose they get away with as it's a convertible, but, how embarrassing for the kid to be taken to school in a Peugeot.

Very surprised to find a BMW dealer offering a car that age/ condition for sale - I'd have expected it to be straight down the line to their domestic feeder or auction house.

I've bought both my latest cars from Rybrook Worcester and found them to be superb - which is why I went back. Last time when I enquired I was sent a decent quality video clip of the exterior and interior and when viewed in the flesh it was perfect. For me, that sense of confidence isn't easy to come by and I'll definitely call on them next time, albeit conscious that people move around in the car trade and standards can vary as a result. I do recall in small talk being told that dealers do sometimes take 'job lots' of vehicles from 'BMW central' the quality of which can be variable, so perhaps that's what happened with the OP. Still no excuse and completely unacceptable in my opinion - self defeating for the brand and dealership also I would have thought.

Yes, I bought our rare spec X3 from John at Rybrook, even though a 120 mile trip and he was excellent. Very good service and the car was perfect.

was even thinking of them for my next car.

AUCs are about the insurance policy covering failure of components, rather than the condition of the car at sale.

The checks they undergo (assuming they're being done) are about checking the components that will be covered, and that consumables are in serviceable condition. Cosmetics do not form part of an AUC schems, so will only be dealt prior to sale if something is broken - and then only to the level of what the SMART repair team can provide.

This practise isn't just some BMW dealerships, I looked at a 2 year old Golf R in a local VW dealership that was in their AUC. The rims had all been kerbed (and just painted...), the panel gaps on the rear bumper were inconsistent, and the paint wasn't the same shade across several patches of the car.

I went elsewhere.

This may be the case now, but hasn't always been. I remember reading an AUC leaflet that suggested that cars should be in pretty much as-new condition and at the time getting the dealer to do a whole load of stuff to ensure it was so. That was a few years ago now though.

I don't even understand how cars get in such bad condition. My F10 is 5 this year and it is immaculate. None of the wheels are curbed. There are no scratches, dents, scuffs or marks. Infact I've got a couple of stonechips and that's it. It really isn't that hard to look after a car so how do people get them so badly damaged and how on earth have we got to the stage where dents, marks, scrapes and scuffs are accepted as normal on a 4-5 year old car?

Even my 15 year old E39 has no scuffs, dents or scrapes - just stonechips on the front.

I think it's just bad luck and carelessness in some combination. You wouldn't really expect carelessness in a car that someone cared enough about to spend a lot on options though.

My daughter had a Ibiza that was hit front and back by tow-balls, was hit on the bonnet by a large firework and arrived at our house one day with 2 splodges of something on the bonnet that was eating the paint. It also amassed an astonishing number of door dings - several obviously done by sharp corners of rear doors - and had 3 new windscreens in the time she owned it. P/Xing it was a interesting conversation!

I had the same with a demo on a 420 D Gran Coupe I was interested in road testing , lovely video but had three fixed appointments cancelled due to the car not being available , one for health and safety reason ( a small chip in the windscreen ) I kid you not.

The final insult was listening to a radio advert for the same car being available for road test that got me sending an email to BMW UK. to complain.

I ended up having a road test at another dealership , the salesman just remarked I'd not like it after my 5 series , he was right and I ended up with a new 5 series .

I travelled 40 miles away to get something I should have got on my doorstep.

Company cars or ex rental cars are almost always abused.

Private cars are much better looked after.
