340i Touring would be my choice..

Although we've not had a previous generation 4GC, Touring residuals always seem that bit higher, personally think they're pretty cool too.

Sounds like boot is pretty useful then, but anyone know when the x40i engine will go into the gran coupe to replace the x35i ???

Doh, that's what I thought. Means 435i new is out - gonna take too much depreciation. Many thanks though

Hi - how sure are you regarding the 440i not appearing until Sept '16?

Production Map that's been posted for US Models are showing 435i/xi Cp, Cv and GC production ending Feb 2016. Suggests 2017MY for 440's might be appearing a bit earlier?

I'm hoping that's the case as planning for a European Delivery in June 2016 and hoping to be able to order a 440xi GC -- if indeed it is continued to be offered in US -- as a replacement for my 2011 E91.

Yeah, I'm also looking for what I gather you describe as a "bigger boot"(?) for my 4 Tibetan Terriers. In addition, my wife and I are both cyclists, so needing the extra space if we're traveling through Italy with 2 bikes. Prefer a 6 cylinder, which is currently not offered in US in 3 series touring model and can't quite fall in love with a 3 series GT.

just look at the issues with the first gen 335i cars in 2007. No one touches them without having a warranty in place.
There are people, who are slightly less negative / pessimistic, who dare to run early N54 cars without a warranty ?
That'll be me!
Me too, I'm madder than Mad Jack McMad I am.

The post was tongue in cheek............SBN posted that nobody touches N54 engine cars without a warranty, ArsE92 and I both do and have lived to tell the tale.

Water pump and DSC/ABS controller have been replaced/repaired on mine but these are not 335i specific and are well know problems on all E90 series BMWs. Both problems on mine were straight forward fixes and they cost much less to sort than the price of an annual warranty.

Yes, as with water cooled engines in Porsches I think you tend to hear only about the bad news with the N54 engine and most cars are actually ok. I had one of the first of the E92 335i's with the N55 engine and it was fine; therefore, I don't really get why some people appear to be so wary about getting one of the first of the 340i's - chances are it will be reliable and in the unlikely event it isn't it will be sorted under warranty!

Hi JNW1 wavey. Clearly the fuel delivery on N54 era cars is a weak area however the Evolve map, that's been on mine for the 35k miles, will be giving the HPFP and injectors a harder time than the standard map and there have been no issues at all. After 4 and a half years I fancy a change but can't think of what to replace it with ??

FWIW the BMW tech who came out when the roof on my Z4 got stuck was saying they just don't get any issues any more with the later N54 engines.

He said the early ones were a total nightmare but from I think 2012 onwards they had finally got the main issues sorted. The occasional stuff still goes wrong but not the main bits that gave the N54 it's 'name'.

I have a 2013 N54 in a Z4 35iS and he was adamant it would be OK :cough:

Hi Dave, hopefully catch-up soon when you relocate back to god's own country! In terms of replacing the E92 335i, the two questions are what do you need the car to do and what's the budget? If you're not going to be doing high miles and don't need to carry passengers and/or lots of gear (because you've access to another car that will do that) then a Cayman S or a 911 (or even a TT RS) might be worth a look? However, if you need four decent seats and a bit of carrying space maybe an S4 (or a C63 if you're not doing many miles and don't mind the fuel consumption!). There's also the E9x M3 - probably not much quicker in a straight line than your mapped 335i but almost certainly a lot better in the steering/chassis department plus a last of the line N/A V8!

Now, been offered 435i gran coupe for about £8k off and 5 year service pack plus paint protection thingy included.

It's getting tempting....thoughts ?

Paint protection - utter ste. I recently saw the end result of this at a detailers and it was frankly criminal. As for the 8k off, not bad. I do like the 4GC.

OK -its was more of a sanity check as to if this is a good deal than the pro/cons of paint protection but interesting point

I am not sure - the BMW Product Genius said he thought the 430i would be a 6 cylinder. Need to confirm I think

I enquired today for a 440i XDrive. My dealer confirmed delivery in Sep 16, ordering ~ 3 months before.
