BMW E9 3.0 CSI
Discussion
Firstly, is this the right forum to post about classic BMW's.
Given that I am pretty much priced out of the classic Porsche 911/912 or VW Splitscreen market, I have been looking at alternative classic cars that take my fancy. I am just having a general look around at the moment and came across a BMW E9 (see example below), which I really like to look of. Anybody have any ownership experience they would care to share, before I start any further investigation into considering purchasing one.
I do drive a BMW 320D M Sport Touring, so am also a BMW fan.

If it's as good as it looks (most are not) then it's a deal at £25'000. They are pretty much as good as the CSL and are arguably nicer looking without the chrome arches and side stripes, plus they are half the price. The steering wheel isn't strictly correct but it was an option on the later 2002 and E21.
Get an inspection done by someone who REALLY knows these cars. The rust potential is frightening and it WILL have had rust repairs no matter how well kept it is. These cars were mostly festering at 6-10 years old.

Very pretty cars if not one of the prettiest BMW ever made, but you'd want a straight one otherwise the costs to put right could be eye watering.
Not sure if the one in the link has been restored but it looks in lovely condition but who knows what horrors lurk beneath.
Reading the advert it states not mint and needs a bit of attention but since its last service at 64k has had £46k spent on it with the current mileage @ 84k, so that's either very good news or very bad! (and also confusing as surely part of that £46k included another service?)

I don't know this car, but 4 star is a good garage and careful about what they buy. I have seen a number of their cars and they are in excellent condition. They will go through the car in detail and spend a lot of money checking and preparing their cars. I personally would have no hesitation buying from them.

Hmm. They were selling a Henna red B9 6 Series a little while back that was pretty far from being excellent. It polished up well but it had seen some real P40 craftsmanship.I worked for BMW UK in the 70s and often had a 633 as a company car. I then went as an independent consultant to BMW dealerships and whilst I was working in a dealership they were to provide me with a company car. I did some work on the newly opened Donald Healey dealership in Warwick and rather than use a 5 series I used a old five year p/x 3.0 CSI. I lived in Kettering at the time and my journey of Kettering, Brixworth, Daventry, Southam and Warwick twice a day in that old CSI was as good as it gets for a cross country blast. Really good car and if you get the chance to get one, you should.
