First time poster, long time lurker, looking for some assistance.

I'm coming off company car and looking to pick up an f10 in replacement. Not very PH, but it will be a 520d!

I've pretty much ruled out going new at this point, the thought of paying £500pm for 4 years and not even owning the vehicle at the end of it isn't for me. How good a deal can you really get on a new one though?

I can get a personal loan up to £20k at 3.6%, so at the moment I'm thinking of spending ~£18k on one 2-3 years old with <40k on the clock, closer to 20 if possible, and almost certainly "approved used". This keeps repayments to £400pm and owning a vehicle worth maybe £6k+ on the back end. I do 20k a year, so a higher mileage example isn't a great option for me, at least I don't think it is - maybe I'm wrong.

My questions - has anyone modelled similar, does it actually work out better to go new at this level? It seems to for nearly-new or pre-reg due to the deals/interest rates on PCP, but I can't see new being better than this method though maybe I'm missing something.

Assuming I do go for the 2-3 year old model, is it worth waiting until September? I wondered if a lot of PCP or P/EX customers would have their cars waiting at the dealers for the new reg, which may bring quite an influx of used cars to the dealers once released. The new reg itself may have a positive effect (for me) on the used prices also.

Lastly, how do people find the "regular" seats in these, I'd love the M-sport seats but M-sport variants are rare-ish with my criteria, and almost no SE's seem to be spec'd with the sports seats unfortunately!

New one from around £315 a month, with £2800 down.
You can alter deposit and up monthlies.

Should just add, doing 20k miles pa adds around £50 a month to a £350 contract hire deal.

Thanks, have looked at leasing and it does seem to make more sense than buying on pcp at list price, though I expect the dealer would get to the same place as a lease if it had to. Best deal I can find is £435 pm with 2800 down on a 3 year lease, still not convinced that makes more sense than buying used at this point.

How long are you going to keep the car? If it's for 2-3 years then lease/PCP some good deals around.

If you're going to keep it for years then buy it outright, I lease my main car but bought the Z4C but we've had that for 8 years so that makes sense.

As for the seats the sports seats are OK but try and find one with comfort seats a rare option on the 520d but I had them on my old one and they are lovely.
