Blimey a whole thread on 550i tourings - I'm in!

For the record my car:

2006 550i touring
manual
sport
now on LPG
NBT retrofit
sport button!
120k

Previously had a 550i touring auto but the manual came up and was too good an opportunity to miss

hopefully going for some paint soon as its a bit tired

Anyone had a remap - worth it?

Anyone got sensibly priced ideas to improve the noise?

I'm waiting for the right XFR to show up, if it takes 6 days or 6 months I'm not bothered, I'm going to get an eBay special something or other to tie me over!

Welcome to the thread! 545i Tourings are also represented, as the more suave and discerning choice!

I had Profusion Customs near Heathrow build me an exhaust for about £1k, which sounds lovely. Quite a bit of discussion on this thread.

I'm also considering a remap but I'm just waiting to see what happens with my job, at the moment...

Any pics of your car?

Quiet at the back. The 550 crew are here but we try to keep quiet about our extra 500cc. My Bus has just had some Bilstein Suspension fitted and I'm sporting go flats. Otherwise its all standard.

Its amazing how such a small difference can transform the car...

If it did, I'd agree wink The big differences between E61s come from the options specced, IMO: dynamic drive is the best thing; better ride and no roll.

Just checking Wikipedia for the precise cubic capacities (there's actually 401cc difference: 4398 v 4799) and I discovered the first year of the 4.8 had slightly less power but slightly more torque. Never knew that.

Sounds like we're all in agreement then; The 545i with a custom exhaust is king!

Other than losing my job (possible, if not probable at the moment) - I can't see it being replaced smile

That first year of the 4.8 was in the 4.8is X5.. May explain the different power and torque figures.

You see what I mean now. Healthy debate or belligerence?

I'd take 401cc extra, for sure. Just not at the expense of some other things (e.g. heated seats) so I think spec does rule (even though mine is relatively light).

Are you selling your LSx car?

Aha! I was wondering what got the 4.8 as early as 2004 - a friend had a 54 plate 750i, but I'd forgotten the X5.

Its only an LS1. I've had a couple of offers recently. Neither of them excited me. The car just sits there looking sorry for itself.

Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/112006969595

First manual touring I have seen for sale for over a year - looks like an honest car.

Interfering that it confirms we have a clutch delay value, I was going to call under mine to take a look for one.

Go quickly for somewhere around that price?

I'm a similar mileage and have spent a fair bit on mine so keen to know what they go for!

Yes and yes. Only up a week. Niche market obvs but healthy. A car in demand.

Not a sniff via PH, shouldn't be surprised I never use them anymore. Loads of interest through eBay. Cost a tenner.
