Look at the fun I had last night in the dark 95 miles from home.
Oh dear. Wassup? In other news I've bought some Style 124 alloys in staggered 8 and 9 inch widths. Took them to my wheel refurb guy for a full strip down and powder coat.

I got good money for it, but it was a good case...
That's quite a bit more miles but then the LCI bit is a fair bit more desireable to some. I think it's worth around a straight 10k (to me)

Hard to say as the last time I drove a 545i was back in 2004 when it was brand new.
Ultimately the 550 has more power and torque and is the TU (technical update) version of the N62, so a lot of the weaknesses of the 4.4 were addressed too, but not all.. valve stem seals and silly oil leaks being some.
There's quite a few reasons why that car is 'better' than a 545...
It's the 550i and it's the top one, its an extremely rare LCI Touring, as an LCI car they do have a nicer interior/gearstick, that's also got paddles, it's a 2009 lci which is very rare but it means it's got the later generation hard disk based CIC navigation which is a huge improvement.
I'd say it would make a really good purchase if you were doing fairly low miles (like me, 5k a year) so it wouldn't end up being silly high miles. If I had to get rid of my Jag tomorrow for something slightly cheaper I'd 100% make an offer on that car. Probably 9.5k having thought about it, pay up to 9750.

I picked up a 545i as there were no 550i on the market at the time and I needed a V8 wagon ASAP because the dog wasn't happy with a 1.8 Rover
Mine was 75k miles for £6k (or so - can't remember exactly now).
To be honest - I now don't think I could effectively pay double for a 550i with those miles (or more).
If a 75k mile 550i appeared, I'd definitely 'have a think about it' as I'd like a little 'more' in the engine department but is it worth the upgrade? I have all but decided it isn't. Another £6k or more in the pot buys a really nice toy/weekend/track car or a million other things.
Mine has been a daily driver though I do less than 5k a year (not including a 2k Italy trip) and very little has gone wrong, really. No signs of leaking oil or water (other than the water/radiator pipe that goes on all of them) and is regularly covered in mud and dog spit.
It's part of the family now! I'd buy the best car you could find for the money, be it a 4.4 or 4.8.

I do 24k a year, and like dom I need the estate for the dogs : I paid 5k for an 03 saloon with 93k miles 6mths ago (no estates around at the time) and love it, it's been hassle free. Trade in now on that would be 3k max, leaving 7 to find, and that's just too much of a jump I think. Shame really.
Can't convince myself that a 535d is an acceptable option either...

with my mileage, anything I buy is going to lose 2-300 a month anyway, Ultimately the 550 has more power and torque and is the TU (technical update) version of the N62, so a lot of the weaknesses of the 4.4 were addressed too, but not all.. valve stem seals and silly oil leaks being some.
