BMW just called again to inform me of the defects they have found with the car - they're are quite a few. And also to tell me there are 2 recalls which needed completing. One for the Battery cables and one for the Brake Booster. The Brake Booster one is 3 - 4 hours work apparently. Quick Google search brings up a lot of results re the Brake Booster recall.
That is a lot of stuff but at least you won't pay for any of the recalls and the work will be 'fresh' for you!Was there anything above and beyond those they are going to do?
I'd quite like to take mine to a main dealer to have that sort of stuff (recalls etc) checked out and signed off... But I'd rather not pay their prices!
Or can Indies do that these days?
Recalls are free at BMW so why not go to the Dealer?
Just the above I think they said. I'll know more tomorrow when I collect it. I was really impressed at the service ordering a key in by next day which would work immediately without even having the car there.
But then they let themselves down with this FOC warranty work. If you consider I told them the car my was coming in on Tuesday, they actually received it on Wednesday but they only figured out it needed some warranty work doing on Thursday. If they were on the ball they should have figured this out on Tuesday or Wednesday at the latest. So overall that is not really great service. BMW - you need to try Harder.

Just got off the phone to the dealer, both recalls have been done on mine. Not surprised as it's been into main dealers for everything and anything before I got my hands on it!
If anything it was a reminder why I'll not use a main dealer for anything that isn't absolutely necessary! "Free health check, sir?" No, I don't want a shafting.. I can't be doing with their phone manner, it's so false and over friendly it makes me sick. It's as bad as American Express customer services. Do some people enjoy been spoken to like that?
I'll stick with my ex BMW tech Indy, down to earth bloke with no bullst, who actually loves BMWs.

Ok, so got in the car this morning and had a light on the dash and the iDrive said something about Dynamic Control System and to drive carefully...
20 miles later, after turning the car off at our destination and then restarting later on, it had cleared.
Still no transmission issues (unless that was connected) at the moment but I have just swapped the badge (the old one was beaten up) and the header tank was 'hissing' a little bit, which is where I guess I have been losing that little bit of water.
Took the cap off to have a look and there was a little rush of 'pressure' (nothing too much) but no boiling etc.
So, is that a head gasket going (no sign of mayonnaise etc) or the cap not sealing properly? I actually think the HGs were done a while ago as the car came with a fair bit of history.

If it was at all warm, you'll always get a bit of a rush of air; it's a pressurised system. Don't be too paranoid!
LOL - I was starting to worry a little bit. It does hiss (very slightly), which is where (I guess) the water is going. Time for a new cap then and see if that cures it.dom9 said:

All of which I declined to accept and collected my car anyway. Weirdly when I press the horn I hear a horn sounding. Did this fix itself or is this something more sinister?
Isn't it nice dishing out a bit of traffic light justice from time to time?
Had an annoying chavved up Type-R that steamed up behind me and was buzzing about my rear through town as I was following someone else. Then as we came to a dual carriageway (with lights) I moved right to pass the car in front and was shadowed by the Type-R. Then the car in front pealed into a left turn only lane just as we got to the lights so the Type-R swerved into L1 of the dual leaving us both at the lights... and about a mile run down to a roundabout where I needed to turn left
Needless to say despite his best efforts he was mullered into the weeds by an old estate with a towbar
Sometimes I think about changing cars as most of my driving these days is a tedious commute - I don't really blast it round the hills anymore. It takes a bit of spirited driving from time to time to rekindle the love

I have become something of a torque + auto convert since owning this car.
Need to do a Euro trip in the next few months - maybe half term, when Mrs9 will be 'off'!
Sometimes nice to open it up now and again, I had a run against a 535d, it did ok but I showed it a clean pair... In fairness it was him hounding me, these derv drivers must feel like they've something to prove!
I've owned a couple of semi-interesting cars, but this 550i attracts more comments than anything else I've ever had. Just this lunch time I was picking my daughter up from nursery and a bloke out the offices next door who was having a smoke outside asked me about it, he had a E91 330i (nice choice too).. Said he'd heard of them but never seen one. He liked how it sounded!
Not that long before that the trolley guy in Sainsbury's car park got excited about it "5.0 injection - woooo" I disappointed him when I said it was "only a 4.8" ..I briefly thought about debadging, but I do like the attention and comments off car people who obviously know it's a bit rare, or the daft one.
Anyone else get comments?
