I'm going to look at M3 v8 coupes this weekend.
People always talk about the lack of low down torque... Would be interested in your thoughts after spending time in your LS and 550i.

Seems to be one of those engines you 'have to try'...

Lack of torque just means you're in the wrong gear!

Well yes. Just mash the pedal into the carpet, that should do the trick.

I'd always go spanish mind.

Yeah it is nice. Is that an LCI Space Grey?

Must admit my favourite touring colour is Imola cloud9

But they all seem to be 520Ds.

Second favourite is Interlagos lick

Love the imola, even though I went to the audi dark side, I still like looking. Although I think that in the words of some Parisian 'marrying your mistress merely creates a vacancy', so I think I stay with my current estate and wish it was imola red smile

That Alpina is beautiful, if it was rhd it would really really annoy me that it's not mine!

I'm envious for what it is but not how it looks, I much prefer the Sport bumpers to the SE ones. Cracking example all the same and lovely leather on that one too.

I much prefer the Sport to the SE but on the Alpina's the lip and wheels just do enough to make it look different again (to me at least) no better or worse than a Sport, just different.

If it was mine I'd want the stripes too!

If it was a 650i I'd forgive it for being impractical, having ridiculous wheels and a bit of a garish colour!

Its a proper Jekyll & Hyde car. The suspension is so subtle it just wafts along - until you show it a corner and your realise its not made out of marsh mellows.
Officially sporting 497 bhp it is however generally accepted that these engines all produce nearer 530-550. But its the torque that it produces that is astonishing - 700 NM!
Flick it into sport and mash the pedal and the thing gathers speed like nothing I've driven before - it positively makes my 360 Modena feel slow in a straight line. Yet driving it to Tesco for the weekly shop under light load its a comfortable as anything and has a rather useful boot too. There are 4 RHD B5 Tourings in the UK and 1 LHD. My wife and I are both from the continent so we actually prefer a LHD car particularly since many of the trips undertaken in the B5 are abroad it suits us.
The B5 engines were entirely hand built by 1 man at Alpina in Buchloe and there are hardly any standard 4.4 parts left on it. Even the block and crank is Alpina with Mahler pistons. The actual car is 1/3 pure Alpina parts - around 500 parts, 1/3 'other BMW parts - mostly E65 760i' and 1/3 standard E61 parts.
Finally, it is actually slightly more economical than my previous E60 545i, not much I grant you but a little.

This is excellent news. My wife was saying just last night that we need a more economical vehicle. smile

I believe the name for the leather is Dakota - Alpina strip the original leather off and recover with their own hence the little Alpina roundels on each seat front and rear.

Just to say guys after 1 1/2 years looking for a 550i Touring and not finding a single one I finally jumped ship and bought my first ever Mercedes. It is a 2005 E55 AMG Estate with 78,000 miles in immaculate condition one owner and full MB service history. It feels strange owning/driving a Merc after 30 years of BMWs, but a supercharged 469bhp, 516lb/ft of torque and the AMG touch makes a good case for my first one - it does go and has a fantastic waffley V8 burble. I am still getting to grips with the SBC brakes which are electronically controlled and feel weird in comparison. The seats have active bolsters, adjustable lumbar support (height and amount) and a massage function, they are light years ahead of the BM sports seats and completely connect you with the car rather than leaving you wallowing around as mine did. It also has a slightly lower loading height at the back than my E61 and the seats fold completely flat making the load space even bigger. To look at it could be just another taxi, which I quite like, some of my friends even find it amusing. I still have the track E36 M3 though so haven't completely left the BM camp yet!

Congrats Jez - We'll have to get together to have a look at that!

On another note, the Renault 'battery checker' says my battery is fine frown

So, they won't change it under warranty! A new one has been ordered online.... Grumble!
