Wouldn't it be better to plug it in and see what cylinder is causing the issue, and just replace that one? As well as all the spark plugs to rule that out.

Personally I'd buy the plugs from BMW unless you can be sure they're the exact same part number.
If one coil is on the way out, there is a far chance the others may be, if they haven't been changed before. I'll check the history but I'd feel happier doing the lot. It hasn't need much spending on it in the last year, so it's a treat.
I'm the same. I don't like fixing individual things if they are part of a group of things. I cracked a spring and a shock died on my old E38.... the car got new shocks and springs all round. If I get a puncture on a half worn tyre then both tyres on that axle will get replaced. Etc.

Snap, that's always been my philosophy...

I can't see this car leaving any time soon so I am going to monitor the torque converter issue (if there is one as I barely notice it any more), treat it to new tyres this year (still on winters), get the new coolant tank fitted and maybe have a look at the paintwork. It's doing me proud smile

Booked in for MOT on Friday.
Failed

Both rear lower arms and one rear shocker.

MOT place told me BMW dealer only for the parts.

Bearded ones - what do you say?

Lemforder from ECP?

If one shock is on the way out I'd be tempted to go big or go home. Birds B5.

There's a place not far from me called 'all German parts' that's meant to be cheap for Lemforder parts (I think they make the parts for BMW) ring and speak with Jason, he's a helpful fella.

I get re changing stuff in pairs like, springs, shockers, drop links, spark plugs etc.. But it's fairly rare for a coil to go so I'd be happy enough changing one. Specially when there's 8! Although I totally get it if you just fancy doing it for a treat.

Looked on ebay and I'm basically confused what a rear lower arm is. Has anyone tackled anything like this?

That's beyond my personal level of diy, so no.

Have you checked real oem to see how it's made up?

Isn't it just the main lower suspension arm, but the actual bushes? These were common to wear on e46's

The B6 are for standard or slightly shorter springs. Here's a pic of the rear susp:

What are your thoughts on alignment and do I need any adjustable top mounts or arms to get a bit of -ve camber on the front?

The only lower arm I see is that massive thing - is it number 9 - number cropped off?

I'm no expert sorry. If I was doing it I'd be tempted with new top mounts oem along with any bushes that look tired.

And a full alignment when done.

Yeah, I'd assume it's the bushes set in on the big arm.

It doesn't look like the bushes are listed separately, maybe some aftermarket parts are available.

No 2 and 5 are prone to wear with age, I think the bushes in the large lower arm are quite rare in the failure dept. I'm sure the MOT tester could clarify which ones have excess play.

If it is 2&5 this may help:

These are on back order. Could be 2 weeks. Back to wandering if I should go for the B6 now.

Picked this up a few days ago
BOOM

And how are you two getting along?

Be honest - they're surprisingly quick right?

What's this down by the seat - a fire extinguisher?

Very well thank you!

Haven't had the opportunity to test the acceleration, mainly town driving this week.

Yes it is a fire extinguisher. It has it's own supplementary owners handbook. The English section is 9 pages of instructions!
Well a week into ownership all is good.

However she does remind me of my ex wife that is less good!
