So she is back and feeling a bit firmer. It doesn't look much lower to me but I can definitely feel the difference. Driving along at motorway speeds there is a bit more chatter through the bum and wheel. The car stays much flatter now when you turn or brake or gun it from standing. This is most noticeable when you brake even gently, the car used to see saw back and forth but not now.

So if you want ultimate comfort this is not a good change. The chatter at motorway speeds could grate if this sort of thing annoys you. I like it. The car feels more like it should if that makes sense. It is still not as firm as a 3 series E90 model sport.

The old rear bushes were seriously worn. A lot of this may be down to the bush change and not the new shocks.

Anyone got a good source for front discs?

I have an E60 545i and as far as I can tell the Brembo part number is 09.9355.10 and this also fits the early 645i and 745i.

Pricing is all over the show and its partly why I'm going down the part number route as you can search for a 545i disc and it says none available but they are for 645i and all the specs they print are the same.

Can anyone confirm my understanding?

Reason I'm going Brembo is quality and I have seen discs at £40 - £50 each whereas the likes of GSF / Eurocarparts list ATE items at £100+ each.

Just to add I've found a Bosch part number of 0 986 479 584 which looks correct and font discs seem around the £50 mark.

I'm almost certain 545 / 550 / 645 / 745 are all the same part but its strange how many of the big parts places come up with stock for some models but not others based on a make / model search. Its almost as if they don't want to sell good value discs scratchchin

I've just paid 312 for new disks, pads and wear sensors. That is OEM BMW from Cotswold, through forumbmw5.

Thanks. Was hoping for a bit less. I found a Brembo retailer listing discs for £100 pair and pads at £72. Don't need wear indicators. But they came back with an out of stock message. Demon Tweeks currently have one on the 'bay at £40 but looks like just one.

Reason I'm looking to save is that I'm changing due to a wobble and there isn't that much wear so I may get them skimmed instead.

Sounds like a good set up. Have you lowered the rear to match the front with INPA ?

My new BMW man did everything. He did say the rear needed lowering. I used to catch the front bumper on kerbs when parking. I might put a big sticker on the wheel to say Backwards only when parking. If I forget the front bumper will probably be toast.

As do they!

What do those rivet type things around the hub actually do? Can you tell.

Nice

If you Ebay the part number from earlier up - 0 986 479 584 - it throws up a few matches. Including this from ze germans.

It looks to me like the hub part is a separate piece - possibly a lighter alloy - which is then riveted to the heavy steel plate.

Get your beards on that!

Top googling that man.

Also... 257 quid for the disks alone. Shows what a good deal Cotswold do on brake kits for forumbmw5 members, fair play.

They weigh a metric fktonne as well, can't have been cheap to post.

Couple of pics after my 3 quid splash and dash. A took a close up of my front disc. It has the rivets so despite the rust I think or would like to think they're oem. If not then they're good copies.

The disc is a different piece of metal to the hub, allowing the disc to get really hot without the expansion causing the metal hub to fracture. The e39 generation had these, but only fitted to the M5.
