BMW 1 Series auto question

Looking to buy a 1 series 1.6 Auto, up to about 3 years old. Do these have a torque converter gearbox as I have been advised on another forum?
We have a Golf 1.4 with a DSG that has started to judder when taking up the drive, it seems many cars with DSG or other twin clutch auto boxes suffer problems.
IIAC the only down side of a torque converter box is slightly higher fuel consumption which we would rather suffer than an expensive repair bill.

Yes, proper auto with torque converter.
And the 8 speed gets better performance and economy figures than the 6 speed manual.
