I have chance to buy 2 Z4 3.0 Coupe's, the thing is which one?

One is a 57 plate Ruby black with Champagne Leather and sat nav with full BMW history and 97000 miles.

The other is 56 plate Silver with Blue bolster and black seats and 77000 miles with full BMW history

I like both cars and finding it hard to make a decision, so I am asking which car do you think would be the best buy and also the most desirable colour and seat colour wise.

Please Help.

I have a Ruby Black one with Pearl Grey, so would obviously say Ruby Black! But it just looks black until the sun shines and then it really stands out.

Actually the first one I looked at last year was silver with black so a bit boring, but the coloured seat bolsters certainly lift the interior.

A guy on the Z4 Forum has a list of UK spec production numbers and according to that there were only 54 non-M Coupes in Ruby black so pretty rare. (I don't have the list here at work but I expect there may be more silver ones).

To be fair I would probably be influenced as much by spec (basic is fairly spartan), condition and price. And I would definitely want a Sport for those seats - the SE ones look so out of place in a Z4.

Please let us know which you go for - especially if you go for Ruby Black.

Home now - it seems my memory failed me (getting old)!

There were 54 Ruby Black M Coupes!

For 3 litre Coupes the numbers were:-

Ruby Black - 13 SEs and 140 Sports.

Titanium Silver - 41 SEs and 228 Sports.

Silver Grey - 52 Sports and 288 Sports.

Sorry for any confusion, but Silver definitely more common although the 2 colour seats do seem to be pretty rare.

Anyway just looked at the options - mine has Xenon headlights (complete with washers) which are brilliant(!), heated seats (could live without them) and Professional Hi-Fi Speaker system with 10 speakers and 43o watts (but I generally prefer to hear the engine).

Other options were pdc (rear parking sensors), cruise control, multi-function steering wheel, CD Changer and cupholders.

I would have liked cruise but it can be retro-fitted as the control and section of wiring loom is available, and I believe UK models are pre-wired for CD changer but you have to take half the interior out to fit one! Cupholders aren't highly-rated and I believe right-hand ones are no longer available.

My other preference was 135M wheels. the 108s are a split-rim design and all the ones I've seen have the lacquer lifting around the split. I believe it is an electrolytic reaction between the alloy rim and the steel bolts causing corrosion which "bubbles" the lacquer. I was talking to someone the other day who had them on a Passat (don't laugh, his was a rare W8 4 Litre one) and he was told they would need splitting for refurbishment so tyres need to come off, but wore, the bolts can snap due to being corroded into place and bolts cost £10 each! With over 20 on each wheel that can quickly get expensive!

Anyway if you want any more tips I would recommend signing up to Z4 Forum - very friendly and helpful with loads of "how to" guides, etc.

GLWTS.

Hi Mr Tidy, I opted for the Ruby Black one in the end with Champagne Leather, Sat Nav, cruise control, rear parking sensors multi CD, it also has had iPod connection fitted so has all the gizmos.
The car has done 97000 miles but has always had a full BMW warranty so anything that needed doing was done.
I had my first run out in it Saturday and did over 300 miles of enjoyable driving especially when giving it a bit of throttle and listening to that lovely sound from the engine sound.
The car has had one sponge taken out of the noise generator induction box, how do you prefer to have the sponges set?
One thing that really supprised me was the petrol consumption over the journey an average of 38 mpg and i was not nursing it along sometimes running up to 7000rpm just to hear the music to my ears inside the car.
I really am very very pleased with it as I have never had a sports car before, the nearest thing being a Seat Leon with the BTC touring car body kit.

For me as a Z4M convertible owner.....

The 3.0 Coupe is just so sweet and I would go for the later engine the 265bhp if I was looking for another car.
Despite my BMW garage friend's assertion that the 235bhp version that was in the 330Ci that I sold him was more reliable.
Down to the VANOS in later models that he has had to deal with.

My 2000 330Ci was bloody quick with the 235bhp engine. He's quite pleased! biggrin

The Z4C had the 265bhp engine from launch, so neither of the OP's options will have the earlier engine.

Bazill, congratulations! thumbup

Ruby Black works really well this time of year!

Keep enjoying it - the N52 engine just begs for lots of loud pedal. cloud9

I've had mine just over a year now and it always averages over 30 mpg, but I don't use it to commute.

I haven't opened up my sound generator yet so don't know how much foam it has (or hasn't) - that job is currently at the top of my "to do" list. smile
