After this thread going a little quiet recently, I had my first big spend on the car, although it has to happen with all cars. Tyres. Had four Michelin Pilot Sport 4s fitted today, and we will have to see how they go. Of course they're better than the budgets that came off, but I'll give it a while before I comment on their abilities. Plus the fat little man on the sidewall of tyres makes me happy. Here's a pic of them. I think they're pretty.

Thanks s_m!

My concern would be that it may have already been used as a track and/or drift car! biggrin

Looks like the eBay one could do with a little engine bay tidying. Take the aux air pump off for starters.

I'm getting my wheels back from being refurbed and powder coated this weekend, can't wait. I'm looking closely at the BMW Cup for 325Ti, could be a contender for me to build another car and come out racing next season. http://www.bmwcup.co.uk/ Going to watch them on Monday at Castle Combe.

Bad day today. mad

Going up the M40 and some bird tries to hitch a lift - think it was a grouse! Nearly managed to miss it but caught it with the offside front.

I now have a lower wheelarch line that is worn through (I was doing 70 when I hit it). Took the knackered liner out and I have 2 wires worn through where it runs down the wheel side of the liner (?) and a bit of ducting about 10 inches long fell out!

Wish I knew what was originally in there, especially what the wires were connected to as the foglight wiring is still intact - any clues would be much appreciated! thumbup

Bad luck (though worse luck for the grouse I suppose!).

One of the wires will be for the outside temperature sensor, it is mounted in the front left arch. Not sure what the other wire is, but I have a random loose wire in the other arch too smile

The ducting is for cooling the brakes.

Yes, probably much worse for the grouse (I couldn't see what happened to it, although there were a lot of feathers flying).

It got the driver's side, so hopefully the wire isn't required!

Brake should get plenty of cooling with the bottom part of the liner out!

When I get new bits I will have to bodge the bumper as the bolted fixings got ripped out! I need one of those stickers - No Big Birds!laugh

Wow, I just looked at the BMW Cup link!

A 325ti with 93K miles in the yucky metallic green got listed today on A/T for £1,100 - really, really tempting!!

Everyone on here seems to be trying to lead me astray at the moment!

Thanks guys! (Must resist, must resist, etc.)

Is anyone else doing or thinking of doing this? Would surely be a good reason for a 325ti meet-up at one of the races - even if it just lets me see who is putting temptation in my path at every turn!biggrin

I'll be between jobs between the 20th of May and the 4th of July. Even with a little holidaying a 325ti meetup would seem good to me. THe ti cup seems excellent. Almost like some of the MX-5 races!

Either the ti cup, or maybe a track day? smile

As someone who has only done karting I think that could make for an interesting experience laugh

You should book yourself on a novice day ASAP! It is a lot of fun, and the 325ti with DSC engaged is very difficult to spin biggrin

The Ti cup looks superb.

Mine has been excellent recently, had a few long trips in it going up to wales and back from the South and hasn't put a foot wrong. I have however been too busy to put any of my plans into action. Every time I see a Sport it reminds me how much I need to get a new set of bumpers.

Sorted, I took it to my local BM indy on Friday - the random wiring is for a temperature sensor for the heated screen-washer jets (Which don't generally work anyway from my experience)! laugh Just keep a high proportion of anti-freeze in the mixture.

I have the B12 kit on my car, and it is a little stiff. I think it suits the character of the compact more than it would the saloon. I checked and the 330 front arb is either 23 or 24mm (depending if the donor car had sports suspension or not), the 325ti has 26.5mm. If you are planning to track the car, I would expect the stiffer bar to be worthwhile.

Where are you based, if you are not too far away I can show you what the B12 kit feels like. I would also love to see how the compact goes with a 330 engine in it smile
Very interesting - that might be why the E46 328i SE Coupe I drove before I bought my 325ti felt like a blancmange (plus the Compact got a quicker steering rack IIRC before the other E46s).

Which puts me right off 316 and 318 conversions with a 330i engine - a 325ti would be a much better starting point surely?
