Yes I'd say you were right to walk away.

I've only driven our 640d too, it felt so much better on the first test drives but after the first long trip in it I was so disappointed. If I'd have bought a new one I'd be taking it back.

Our Cerb had been off the road for a good few years while I gave it a full rebuild, getting that back out & the 640d feels terrible getting back into it again.

With the runflats the Msport at least with the 20" wheels is terrible & doesn't so much soak up the miles as jump about all over them...

Deciding now if we should change to non run flats or get a different car.
Is it just the engine you dont like or the chassis? Reading your garage description I'm guessing it both.

Can only speak of experience of the 640d but the simple answer is no, the steering is numb and completely lifeless and it always shows its size and weight and it's no fun at all to drive around corners.

As a GT car it does hit the spot as it's comfortable and has a lovely interior and soaks the miles up very well, the ride is terrible on run flats but I have swapped to normal tyres and it's made a massive difference in terms of ride quality.

If you accept it's a big and heavy cruiser then all is well but don't expect it to offer any driving thrills or you will be left very short changed.

I detested ours on 20" wheels and runflats and it crashed and banged pretty much all of the time on the road and the non runflats have made it such a more smooth ride and actually a far better car to drive overall and it also has given the steering a little more feel too.

As a motorway/long distance car I do like it but for anything else I do find it a very unrewarding car to drive.

Talking about the drive and not the engine type (i have 640d over 2.0yrs now) its a good drive on day to day commutes and longer runs, i agree that the run flats are difficult to live with and the slightest bump or hole in the road and it makes a noise like the suspension has shot through the bodywork, however to sit in and use its a nice place to be and very well built, imo its not built for tight back roads or throwing about, it really gets twitchy and feels unstable, i often feel like the back-end will break with little effort and this reduces driver confidence, again this may be just my experience, another model may be better for your driving experience.

That's a bit of a shame to here they are no fun, perhaps they are very spec sensitive?

I've not driven the 6 series, but I have driven a few F10 5 series models. The 535d M Sport facelift on 18" wheels was pretty much zero fun, not a great ride or steer for me. However a 535i SE on 17" wheels with adaptive drive was a real surprise. Lovely ride, yet very fluid and fun to throw around.

Has anyone tried an adaptive drive six on smaller rims?

I run adaptive drive on 19" on a GC and I think only the std SE wheels are smaller. I've already commented on my thoughts in the thread so I'll not type it all again.
