I have my new car coming this month, 435d gc,

I want to fit ACS springs to the car, question is do I need to pay BMW to do it or will it affect my warranty if I have it done in my own workshop?

(I own a garage)

Thanks

I don't think ACS parts are covered by the BMW warranty but I believe they're covered by their own (2 year/60k mile) warranty instead? However, I suspect that won't be valid if the parts fail as a result of being installed incorrectly and from what I understand BMW dealers who are agents for ACS charge around £300 for fitting the springs (which is arguably not too bad if it includes a full alignment check). Therefore, I guess it boils down to how much do you want to avoid the main dealer fitting cost? On the one hand it's peanuts in the context of the total cost of a 435d GC but on the other you'd think a competent garage would be able to fit a set of springs without too much difficulty; think in your shoes I'd buy the parts and have my own workshop do it but I'm sure others will disagree!

I enquired to Rossiter's this morning, to quote:

Fitting is £360.00 inc vat and wheel alignment. Total £601.37, assuming you are coming to us in Norfolk

This is for a 2013 F31 328i

Did they say how long the work would take? From memory I think I paid around £70 for a full laser alignment check a couple of years ago so if the whole job takes half a day (3 to 4 hours to fit the springs and do the alignment check) £360 sounds like an acceptable bordering full price!

They didn't, but it does sound like a 3-4 hour job.

Quite a lot of BMW dealers will do the job Lorcan has set them up also he has set up some independants, but they all come in more expensive than Rossiters themselves.

My local dealer shows as an approved partner on the Rossiters website but I haven't got a price from them; however, even if Rossiters were cheaper in my case that would have to be balanced against the extra time and cost of a return trip to Norfolk from North Yorkshire! Just reading Knitware's post, the Deutsch Tech outfit he mentions is also down as an approved partner and at £495 they actually look to be a fair bit cheaper than Rossiters - therefore, while in some respects I can understand people wanting to use the official UK ACS Agent to do the work, it doesn't look like they're always cheaper than their approved partners?

Headlights?! If you mean wheel alignment I thought Knitware said that was included in the £495!

Arse about face yep wheels, they should do the headlights as its lowered. mmm the product is £250 plus £70 so not much left for 3/4 hours work ,is that right?

I daresay someone in the trade will be able to get wheel alignment checks done for less than it would cost Joe Public so if it costs them £50 that's roughly £300 for the parts plus the alignment check which leaves £200ish for fitting. I agree that doesn't sound a lot for 3 to 4 hours work (assuming that's how long it takes) but I guess an independent will have a much lower hourly rate than a main dealer? Regardless, if people like Knitware have had the work done using genuine ACS parts and are happy with the outcome that effectively makes £495 a reasonable benchmark price in my book!
