Mulling a move back to BMW, had a 123d then went to a MK5 R32 which I've had for circa 8 months, but now thinking about to a 130i. What's the view on the 130i auto box as ideally I think the manual is required.

Alternative thoughts are sell the R32 anyway and then save/wait for the right Audi S4 B8 or BMW 335i to turn up.

Just drive them all, I expect the 130i will be the most fun (possibly with a few choice mods) I've never driven one, but want to. (Currently have an M135i)

Probably depends upon you want - 130i is surely going to feel much more "lively" than any A4 or 3 Series.

If you don't need the space a 130i looks promising (haven't driven one yet, but my daily is a 325ti and a 130i is probably its replacement).

Go for it. Great fun car, plenty of tail wagging action and probably the best non-M straight 6 of recent years. Never ran mine on anything other than runflats but found the ride acceptable despite people suggesting otherwise. Mine was a facelift model (2007 on) and even with the revised steering had far more feel than the M135i I'm running now. For sheer fun (at much lower speeds) I actually think I prefer the 130i to the M135i, it just feels far less synthetic. Wish I'd have kept hold of mine..
