That's just a screen size change isn't it?

Pro media is the bigger screen plus a lot of behind the scenes stuff but the idrive controller stays the same. You can write on the top of it and the recognoition is better than the voice recognition!

Re the numberplate, not sure if thats the angle of the photo?

I was in BM dealer at the weekend and was told no 335D's available until June/July as the UK allocation had apparently been reduced.

If you look at the first picture the iDrive centre is smaller than the current generation as can be seen in the second car.

Its clear they are different, that's pretty eagle eyed of you. My car (the red one) has business Nav not professional. would that explain it?

That's what I said 😀 Big diff between business and prof nav. Unusual on a car as prices as this to have Business?

I think I have solved it not without having a small heart attack first that mine had been miss built. I am pretty satisfied its the difference between Business Nav and Professional Nav.

I checked some cars on the used car locator registered September onwards and all the ones with professional have the bigger button. These two have business nav and have the smaller dial like my car (the red 340i on previous pages)

Also I went on the configurator and built my car as I ordered it with business nav and the button looks like this

Then I changed to configurator to professional Nav and it changed the dial to this

Lastly on the configurator if you go to the details about the Nav system it only mentions a larger dial with handwriting capabilities on the professional and not business.

Navigation system - BMW Business is a hub of useful functions: navigation system with a built-in 6.5" LCD colour display, radio, MP3 player, CD player and an RDS double tuner. Route guidance is provided via an arrow or map display, along with spoken instructions. The navigation system is operated intuitively via the iDrive Controller with direct menu control buttons and functional bookmarks or – depending on the vehicle's features – via voice control. Navigation system - BMW Business shows the route through numerous European countries and in some cases even further afield. TMC technology is used for the early detection of traffic obstructions and alternative routes are calculated immediately. So the driver always arrives safely at their destination.

The BMW Professional Multimedia navigation system features a sleek design and a superior range of services: It delivers a simple and easy-to-use navigation system that is seamlessly integrated into the BMW, including the iDrive operating concept and iDrive Touch Controller. The system comprises the hands-free facility with USB interface and voice control, BMW Professional radio with DVD drive, as well as a 20 GB memory for audio files. It also includes the use of Real Time Traffic Information (RTTI). The built-in 8.8" LCD colour display with split screen function (main and supplementary screen) is designed for optimal readability and clarity. The iDrive Touch Controller with direct menu control buttons, eight functional bookmarks and voice control makes operation intuitive by allowing you to enter the address of your destination in handwriting on its touch-sensitive surface. Thanks to the three-dimensional map display that makes use of satellite images as a map background – with photo-realistic depictions of selected sights – navigation becomes an exciting visual experience. Map updates are available at BMW Centres for three years without license fees. Within the framework of BMW ConnectedDrive, in selected European countries the system automatically updates the maps for three years up to four times per year.

Based on all of that I think that solves it?

Doesn't look like the controller stays the same after all.

You had me worried there though, at least it was worth checking out. Now shows more differences than the dealers told me but I am not surprised.

Am happy enough, I don't play with the tech and just wanted standard nav if I get lost.

Re the idrive controller, you are correct and I was wrong, well spotted.

Having waited almost 6 months for mine to arrive, it would have been nice if it could have stayed new a little longer but on cleaning it yesterday I find that some scrote has scraped the rear side bumper, not the biggest but it won't polish out., might have noticed sooner had the car not been continually covered in mud for the last two weeks.

Ho hum, time to stop being precious, it's only a car, time to start enjoying the driving smile
