A friend of mine did an experiment with this and swore (driving an d mondeo) that he got far better mpg and his car ran far smoother. So I tried with my 320D, I also get better mpg and it’s less lumpy on cold mornings. I now only use v power or BP ultimate

I did 70k in my heavily tuned diesel.

I noticed only a small amount of improvement to smoothness on vpower.
But no better economy.
And dynos and thousands of data logs show no more power.

So all in all any old diesel will be fine :-)
Certainly wouldn't spend 15-20p extra per liter.

If you want to bung some cetane / diesel cleaner in every so often, a tenner twice a year is much better value.

The best way to keep a diesel happy is ensure egr / dpf are not blocked or clogged, no leaky intercooler pipes and a freely moving vnt mechanism on the turbo (basically rag it occasionally)

I’m really interested in this as I think my 520d fuel economy has dropped but this is only based on the computer - I’ve never measured off the odometer. When filling up it used to say high 700s but now it’s low 700’s and even high 600’s. Dad says it needs a tank or two of V-Power to clean it out. It’s on 206k and has had supermarket fuel pretty much exclusively - is he right?
Winter diesels get quite a bit less mpg.

Check other mechanical issues if you're concerned. You may find as temps increase your mpg returns.

Cheers all. By the way, what was this redex thing they tried selling me? What does that do?

It's just a "cleaner" ... I'm not sure if they help....
Certainly wouldn't work miracles...!

Best just to keep it well serviced , and water (boost) tight :-)

If you fancy some just buy it on Amazon cheaply and put it in on a nearly empty tank .

I always thought what will 500ML really do in 50L+.... you could piss it in and the car wouldn't care any different :-)

The normal Shell diesel probably won't be any better than supermarket stuff, but their V-Power stuff has a small amount (<0.2% or less than 2ml/litre) of 2-EHN (2-ethylhexyl nitrate) to clean & boost performance (slightly).

Round my way it's about 10p/litre more expensive though, so I just buy the raw ingredient from Amazon for about £13/litre or 5L for £40 and they'll be enough for 500/2500 litres at the same concentration as Shell of 100ml/50 litre of fuel.

At that price, 2 fill-ups of V-Power diesel will cost you about as much as a litre of the raw stuff - which will do 9-10 fill-ups.

You can get it from trade sources, in much bigger quantities for much cheaper prices, if you've got somewhere to store it.

I use this...

.....and then this in my diesels.

I sorted some issues with dpf and egr codes being thrown on my older 530d using this stuff.
MPG started to drop off, was seeing 36mpg on a run at best, DPF constantly trying to regen, soot levels always high in it. After using the above it sorted it right out, 44mpg on a run again, dpf regen every 2-3 tanks again.

I'm a convert.

It won't improve your car, not like 98 ron will compared to 95 ron (if the car is set up for 98) but it will keep it running how it should be running. Often you loose some power when it is always trying to regen or egr is getting gunked up, keeping that clean means it is running right, and that can make a big difference.

I dunno, my old vito was a bit limp mode prone but always seemed worse if I'd filled at a supermarket so used to avoid them. Never used super diesel though, assumed it was all marketing, will it make my new transit sound less like a washing machine full of spanners?
