I am looking for some assistance regarding an E90 330d and some advice and pro's/cons on remapping.

I am browsing vehicles at the moment, I have a budget of around £7k and looking at a couple of high mileage manuals. I have looked through the forums and seen a lot of support for emaps as a good route for a remap, but are there any specific issues with mapping a high miler?

Also, some seem to think that in a manual, there is a much greater chance of things going wrong, can someone in the know help me on this? I want to stick with a manual and not an auto so, besides the extra cost, a 335d isn't really an option.

It is said that the manual gearbox can not take as much Torque as the Auto's, so some mappers remap accordingly.

The only downside is the cost, and while I'm sure people can trot out examples of examples going wrong, I think you'd be unlucky unless you treat the car carelessly.

I've remaped both a 320d and a 123d and the results certainly out weighed the increased risk in my opinion - both had around 40k on the clock. The 123d was much more willing and really did shift quite well running at 259bhp (claimed). I wouldn't be too concerned remapping a car with 80k miles provided it had been well looked after and regularly serviced etc. Unfortunately it is a little bit of a case of needing a crystal ball! I found BWChip Tune very good but I would just choose the closest reputable company (i.e recommended by enthusiasts!) unless you are after something very bespoke.

Simon from emaps remapped my E39 525d a couple of years ago. Made a massive difference, and I think I put another 30k on the car before I sold it without issue smile

Thanks for the responses, but I was thinking more along the 140k mark rather than 40-80k!

Sorry, I should clarify - I can't remember the exact mileage, but I think I took mine from c.110,000 to c.140,000 with the new map.

Fair enough - If I were in that position then I would probably ask the Remap company directly. I guess you need to consider the fact that you are likely to be replacing the odd part as they reach the end of their useful life anyway, the remap isn't likely to accelerate this hugely!

Let us know if you decide to go ahead and how you get on!
