You really don't do it for the money anyway, but if you can't perceive the benefits then you're better off with the RFTs what with the convenience.
I could perceive the benefits on the E61, but they were never as pronounced as the vociferous few made out. On the F11, I haven't yet tried one with non-RFTs but on run-flats the ride is better than the E61 on non-RFTs. Have you tried them back to back on an F10/F11?

As for cost, I usually use Tyretraders or Tyresonthedrive and when I last checked, there was far less of a gap between equivalent RFTs and non-RFTs than there used to be. It is a bit more than a tenner now, more like £20 a tyre for the Bridgestone RE050s, but that's by no means enough of a saving to persuade me - particularly since I'd at least need to buy an extra wheel and tyre to keep in the garage. Which F10/F11 takes 255/35R18 tyres anyway?

There's a lot less difference in price with F10 tyres.

I agree. I don't think it's worth the bother of changing on a 5 series, especially with adaptive suspension. I find my 530d rides fine and has insignificant tyre noise. There are occasional bits of crappy road where it is there but that's more down to the general state of UK roads, not the tyres.

Maybe the smaller cars aren't so well insulated.

In comparison with a CLS350 I borrowed when I was looking to change the 5 is much better in terms of tyre noise and the CLS didn't have RFTs.

I'm puzzled by Welshbeef's problem though. I don't find my 5 series has the issues he says at recommended pressures.

Ps: that table's not too hard to understand is it? Seems OK to me.

I spent ages looking at that table online to work out my tyre pressures before realising the F11 table is different laugh But that's entirely my fault.

It's not the most logical though; the little graphic of the car shows the front facing left, but on 19"s the rear tyre pressures are in the left hand column and the front tyre pressures are in the right hand column.

Could I ask what tyres your car is on? Mine's on Bridgestone RE050As and the tyre noise isn't great. In fact, I'm probably going to switch to non-RFTs because I can't get my preferred Goodyear F1 Assymetric 2s in RFT form.

I see what you mean about the table now, I assumed that if you had the 275/40 19 rears then it was 2.0/2.3 whatever fronts you had. Likewise the right hand column, if you have the 245/40 19 on the front it was 2.2/2.2, whatever rear you had.

Of course that doesn't work if you have 275/40 on the rear and 245/40 on the front, you don't know what table to choose.

My car has Pirelli P7 summer tyres on 18" and Sottozero Winters on 17". Ride is pretty much the same on either.

Just to add: I specced this car as a comfortable cruising barge. Not only does it have the full adaptive suspension, it has all the comfort packs too, seats, door opening etc. I deliberately chose the 18" wheels to make the ride as good as I could. It works for me.
