When I feel it is appropriate I'll drive over the speed limit, or under, or at. I'm happy to accept the penatlies if I'm caught speeding. I assume you two are prepared to accept a total loss of your expensive cars in the event of a crash?

I look forward to next weeks "535d and Carbs guide to benefit fraud, everyone does it, don't miss out"

Lots of love.

So it is ok for you to break the law?
Fair enough, we got that one sorted.

I won't even go near the words 'silly hypocrite'.

Stop digging. The hole is already big enough for you and a busload of whingers.

PS

I used Octane Booster in the 1960s Austin Cooper on Wednesday and drat, i forgot to tell the insurers.
Criminal!

I personally see fraud as different to doing 31 in a 30, just as I'm sure you don't see insurance fruad in the same light as murder. Strictly speaking that is hypicritical on both our parts.

It doesn't stop knowingly driving round uninsured being a pass times of pikeys

Anyway, life is too short so enjoy your new car whatever.

Let's get back to the thread-starters point, the adorable 535d!

The way all these threads seem to go in the end just reminds me why, even though I own a nice BMW, I never admit it in public...

The Lotus and Ford threads are just as argumentative!

It's just a matter of finding a reasonable insurer. I certainly plan to find one since I would hate to lose everything if I were to injure/kill someone in an accident, especially afer having discussed chipping online! I declared tons of mods on my Cerbera, Elise and Caterham with no problems. The Elise with Honda engine was expensive until everyone started doing it. I'll let you know how much extra it costs.

50K would probably go on something used and very special.

Well i sold my heavily modified RS6 at the end of January & replaced her with a 4 month old 535D M-Sport & can say that i'm delighted with my choice of car.

She is of course a little slower than the RS6, but having been breathed on by DMS, she'd certainly keep up with 95% of the cars on the road, with only supercars getting the edge. Now 0-60 in 5.5secs & well over 500 lbsft of torque. I opted for a dealer demo car, as i wanted all the toys & boy is she stuffed full of them.

A great car full stop.

I am also saying that Nathan is naive and unreasonable in thinking that anyone who puts a K and N air filter in their 1.1 Fiesta and doesn't tell their insurers should be hung, drawn and quartered.
In theory, that driver would be uninsured, but so what?
The insurers can be tough, but they're not that crazy.

So we should declare every tiny alteration? It never has happened and never will.

If you dont realise that insurers will use even the smallest excuse to not pay out, then you are being rather naïve. Whether the car is a greater risk in reality isn't the point.

I have had 2 claims in the past 15 years.
Both cars had minor modifications.

Claims went through like clockwork.
Amen.

Glad you are pleased wityh your 'superderv'.
Too many people don't appreciate how quick these cars are stock, let alone tuned.

Did you bother upgrading your insurance? If so, how much did the premium rise by?

Carbon - I cant resist responding. Just cos they did pay out is not a reason to not tell them about mods in the future. As per previous posts you are arguably driving without insurance. That is an offence. Also it is a risk to your livelihood. You dont seem to have grasped this risk based concept. Just cos 10 of your mates do the same, just cos the ECU supplier suggests you should, just cos you havent had probs in the past, just cos Nathan might have broken the speed limit (eh!?) etc doesnt seem a good argument to continue. If you are happy with breaking THIS law, with committing fraud with your insurer and with risking your livelihood all so you can save a £100 then that is great but to me it seems a poor risk mitigation decision.

Wouldn't it be better to start a seperate thread about 'modifications and whether to tell your insurance company', then this thread can be left to discuss 'just' the 535d. All this off-topic banter is making this thread seem much more interesting than it really is and may inadvertently tempt our petrol loving brotherhood to take a look..

I did with the RS6, as the modifications were a little more noticable.

As for the 535D, i've not declared them yet & only due to the fact that the re-map has been wiped following a software upgrade by BMW & DMS will not be re re-mapping the car for a week or so. My renewal is due in about 4 weeks, so i'll do a ring round then & declare the re-map.

Would be nice to find someone with insurance premium hike information for a remap.

Very apt that not a single person here, masses of modified cars, has got a before and after insurance quote, for remapping.
(Nobody knows because nobody bothers).

gazzab, in which case around 1 in 7 cars are 'unisured' because that is the estimate by a car magazine of how many cars have minor mods without informing their insurers.

That figure seems conservative to me, going by PH members i know.

I may well inform them, it will depend how they load the premium.
