Fair enough.
It did get a little toasty in there!

I had a test drive in the 535d yesterday. Have to say it't the best diesel I have ever driven but not sure I can make bring myself to take the d option. It could play havoc with my 'street cred'.

Have it de-badged!

Yes I could have it de badged - but it still sounds like diesel. Goes well though

You're right it does sound like a diesel all the time and it's not the quietest. 'The 535d is as quiet as its petrol-driven sibling' Not sure the person writing the review was driving the same car.

However I love mine and I never thought I'd say that about a diesel.

I'm coming round to your way of thinking Balloon.

I am comparing the 335d with a petrol Jaguar. The Jag costs more to buy and run but all the extra's (which you generally get nothing back for at trade in time) are included in the Jag

Definitely not all that quiet, but i am warming to the angry growl when it heads towards 5000 rpm.

With the Pro Logic option you never hear the engine !!!!!

I've had mine 5 months, covered 12,000 miles and average 34mpg!

The 535d is a nice car but the suspension still feels very unsettled and the runflats don't help!

My previous 530i Sport was a better ride by far.....27mpg though and slower!

Really? You certainly hear the engine in an M5 with the Logic7 on loud.

I have done 1000 miles in the 535d now and very impressed so far. Just got to decide whether or not to have the DMS re-map done.
£1000 seems a lot of money for half an hour's work.

On the ride quality, i have 19" alloys and whilst not plush, the ride isn't that bad. Have not got run-flats though.

Register over on www.bmwland.co.uk/talker/portal.php & you get a 25% discount on DMS re-maps making it £650 + VAT if you visit them or a 10% discount if they visit you. Had mine done twice (don't ask) & both times it took about 90mins & the quality/performance & customer care is second to none. I can't recommend them enough.

Was it the Audi which they did for you?

Hi Beemer 5: I'm not working for DMS. I think it's not fair to relate the price for the chiptuning with the time they need to install. Hopefully, they invested the time before and therefore they deliver a perfect tool. I'm Swiss and I also consider a tuning for my 535 d. I'm quite sure, that I will do it!

Hello w8pmc: I'm happy to read, that you can remommend DMS. I will do my 535 d with them! I'm in contact with Mike Cooper and he is a very clever guy.

Best wishes,
Diagnosic

Nope, AmD did all my Audi work using their re-map, Milltek sports zorst (full system with sports cats) & lots or Sportec goodies. DMS did the re-map on my 535D M-Sport.

And is my understanding correct: you are happy with the DMS-upgrading for your 535d?

As long as they can reassure me about any engine problems post-remap i will get it done.

I'm well aware, that this is not a really new topic. Nevertheless, I'm very interested in any information about the experiences with DMS tuning of Diesel cars (especially BMW 535d). So far, I've never done something with DMS. But I can say, that I'm very impressed by their reputation and the very enthusiastic media reports (EVO, BMW Car Magazine).

Especially impressive is the increase of the torque (BMW 535d): from serial 560 NM to 685 NM (plus 125 NM or plus 22 %). That raises the question, if the system of the car is able to cope with that. On the other hand, I'm sure, that the gurus from DMS know very well, what they are doing! I think, that reliability is crutial for the furter success of the firm. Any negative message about reliability would damage the good reputation of DMS.

I'm very grateful for every message to this topic!

I don't think you'll see any reliability issues on a 535d that has had a DMS upgrade for some time. The biggest problem surely has to be wear and tear due to the increased power and torque which will only tell as the car ages and possibly in seven-ten years time it will become more apparant.

This is across the board though since most people will go to any lengths to avoid an older car that has been tuned.

I've not had my DMS re-map that long (couple of months), but i did research & i have met the owners of DMS (even raced one of them) & i'd safely state that their company, product & after-sales service is 2nd to none. As for the likely problems, DMS have not to date heard of any failures on cars they've done & it's reckoned that a significant proportion of UK 535D's have been re-mapped by either DMS or the like.

According to Rob (co-owner) the actual mapping for a 535D could have much higher power & torque outputs, but they've pegged it back for reliability & longevity.
