Splt hose, blocked dpf, clogged erg thingy, and 4 failed glow plugs......it was a quick way of spending £900

Was that just part of the joys of BMW & 5 Series ownership or specific to 535D complexity?

Hmmm.. I have had many cars from souped up TVR's to rrack Subaru's to Audi RS thingys and many fast bikes...

If you are under 38 and buying a 535D (esp touring) maybe I don't expect you to get it. However I have 3 kids and a big dog. I also have 3 TV cameras and 500Lbs of lights. I therefore LOVE my 535D. 500Lb Ft of torque and 44 mpg at 70 on a motorway down fron scotland to London and smoking a few 200bhp numpties that might delight in boxing you in behind an artic is great!

It is the ultimate grown up/mpg/power/handling/sub 50k practical deal. Love it (but I am 45)!

One thing when is your MOT?

In case you were not aware it is not illegal to remove a DOF if one was OEM fitted (they have a list of all cars which were and given the big hole it leaves on fm removal it will become an instant MOT failure.

On a different note my 535d revs to 5.5k revs

Ditto the Focus ST red line 7.5 k revs max power 5.5k revs literally no point going much above that I think he new turbo 911 Carrera S is similar lower Rev range and above X revs no point at all in revving it out change up.

Sadly the way it's going.

Personally I like 4th gear 1,250rpm which I think is 30mph maybe less I'm not sure I don't really take much note but in tip trionic mode hold the gear foot to the carpet I think I tend to ups gift at 5k

Yep so much power low down due to the torque even on turbo petrols these days that wringing an engine out either is pointless or very dangerous for your licence!

Still makes for effortless performance.

I'm getting itchy feet for a petrol now after best part of 20k in a diesel BUT it does everything so well apart from the noise and the fact it doesn't crecendo it's just brutal from the off but then drops & the 90-130mph is nowhere near the RS6 literally nowhere.

That's power for you, but 535d is quick enough.
