Thanks for the english lesson. Do you have anything else to contribute?

No I "passed" comment on actually having driven one so I'll leave it at that.

Actually you are completely wrong. Go get a dictionary before u open your yap

Unless "Grizzly Nappa" is a new option on BM's, I think I'm right

You might be right, but ever considered that English might not be the only language in the world that people speak/write?

At least some appreciation, instead of nitpicking, would be nice when "we" (as non native English speakers) try to make ourselves clear.

Otherwise I'd love to hear/see you speak/write non English languages without making mistakes.

But hey, just my 2p of course...

Only prob for me is the depreciation, (unless you can write it off against the balance sheet).

BMW 535D Sport: New £39270, 1yr £30241, 2yr £26008, 3yr £22364, 4yr £19010.

I'd wait till its a yr old, and buy a loaded private example (hi-tech extras add nothing used). Save yourself £9k on list price and £5k on extras.

Baz

I would guess that a 1yr old private example could be a very rare beast. Reasons as you mention above.

More likely an ex.company vehicle which returns to circulation earlier than expected - possibly due, in part, to balance sheet being unable to support depreciation.

Are your figures proposing trade or retail values after the initial purchase?

there's already been a few up on the trader at some stage. Fully loaded 535 D Sport with sat nav etc at £40k saving £5k on list at 1 month old. No doubt 2 yrs or so down the line an E60 M5 could be had for £35k.

The values I've stated are trade in, but that's the money you should pay for one to get a good deal. But I think that book prices are just a guide-a used car is only worth what a prospective purchaser is willing to pay. It's a buyers market.

(I can't sell my E46 privately at £1k under book- not a phonecall in 2 weeks).

I'm beginning to like this ascent of the performance diesel saloons - first it was French cars and Jaguars, now there's a credible alternative to an M5. Take that, Greenpeace

Diesels are still the subject for critics for the dust they blow out . . . I dunno what to do: choose a diesel or a RON95 car I'm doing an anual 20k miles . . . what is the cleanest way of driving that . . .

If I had 535d money i would care less about the environment though . . . bad me

There is none of the usual smoke associated with diesels that I can tell, even when the throttle is opened wide. Perhaps this is due to the efficiency of the huge particulates filter?

Screw the bottom end/cr ratio wotsits- what bloody turbochargers is it using? And pistons and rods for that matter- after all, pressure is pressure.

Even 1.85bar is a lot of boost for turbochargers on a car expected to do 200,000 miles- how are the turbo's cooled? and how does the sequential setup actually work? very few sequential systems have two different sized turbo's- as nel pointed out the other day, they are called compound systems or something, iirc.

Over to DieselJohn and the experts.....

Well I am no expert, just know what my requirements are, and what I like. There are sveral large radiators on this thing, including what must be the largest FMIC I have ever seen mounted on a standard road car.

Well, you might be getting more MPG, but since you pay more for diesel than you do for Optimax, I think I'll be sticking with petrol for now.

I can see the day I buy a diesel looming though.

[quote=burwoodman]Impressive as a 535D is it is no match for a 545. The latter having 333hp. Given it would struggle to hit 155 I bet the last 20 mph would be snail like.

I can imagine how many 535 owners will be be thinking their car is Ferrari quick.

Very good point: last night, I found myself with the headlights of a 911 (no idea which one but a 996 derivative, I'd concluded) up my chuff, at an 'energetic' amble oop the m-way home...

No matter how much carpet was mashed, cog dropped or sport button frantically selected, this infernal blob was simply having none of it: shaking orf was not going to happen.

It reminded me, that no matter how fast you think a particular car is, how capable in this or that respect, there is always a grand master lurking in the shadows, ready to pounce and reduce you to a bumbling wreck of a karate kid novice.

[I have the E60 535d touring with 8000 miles on now 31MPG and rising.Went to Hannover a few weeks ago and I didnt see any snails there! From 130 to the limiter feels the same as 80-100 in my old E39 528I SE. The E60 is a hugely useable every day machine (Not like my E36 M3 Evo which has a completely different character)I would imagine that without the limiter it might go on to 165/170 and that would take a while. My only grumbles are the build quality is not a patch on E39 and the Twin Turbo engine is impossibly noisy. Try getting 20 cases of wine in a 911!Petroldead ]

Seen some requests for 0-100 times etc., which I can nearly offer here from a recent run I made at Santa Pod:

0-98.06 in 14.174. The car is still pulling hard at this point, so 100 really would not be far behind!

I've since had the car remapped by DMS and it is significantly quicker than it was. I'm going back to the Pod on the 11th so will obviously post up the remapped times after that.

They are fitting it in a 3 from what I read. The codes on parts seem to suggest a 335D will be on its way one day.

Clive - did you get a remapped run in ? Id be interested to read about the differences over a 1/4.

I read a report that a car magazine did (Autocar I think), where thay managed 0-60 in 6.0 on a std 535d.
A DMS tuned one returned 0-60 in 5.5 and 0-100 in 13.4.

Wonder if they remove the speed limiter too??

Yes, managed a 13.8 at 99.something, but this was with 1/2 tank (as opposed to 1/4 for the "pre" runs" and on a day that everyone thought the strip was pretty slippy - and I only had time for a couple of runs, and I wasn't totally happy with either of them. In short, I think there is a sub 13.8 / 100+ run in there, and I'll be doing my best to get it out of her!

My mate has just his 535d estate DMS'd and I was truly amazed. It isn't so much the pace off of the line which is quite good, it's the in gear acceleration which can be almost scary. It arrives on a wall of torque.

Mighty impressive and I would think that a few 'super' cars would struglle to get past. They did my Disco too, which whilst not as quick is still impressive for the money.

I'd have one in a hearbeat!!

How do the insurance companies react to the chipping declaration? I assume the dealer can't tell to keep the warranty intact?

DMS reckon (i asked them this afternoon) that 99 out of 100 of their customers do not tell their insurers as the changes are impossible to detect, although one or two here say that this is not the case.
Hmmm...
