Would a Z4 Coupe be a good upgrade for me?
Discussion
I owned a Z4 Coupe for 2 years and thought it was a great car and in some ways regret selling it
Spent a fortune on upgrading it.
As some have said, if you do get one ditch the runflats and that will make a big improvement in handling.
The noise is great but somewhat artificial with the piped in SG. The 350Z imo sounds far better
Rust can be an issue on the tailgate as water doesn't drain off properly, wasn't an issue on mine as it was garaged when not in use.

Thanks for the thoughts. I'm assuming that the Z4 Roadster doesn't have the same issue with the tailgate being a completely different setup? Also, your comment on the noise is interesting; I used to have a 350Z and loved the way it sounded, was hoping the Z4 could compete there, but if not, that for me is quite a drawback (and I really don't want to have to spend additional money making it sound as good as that was).
The Roadster doesn't suffer from rust asthe roof design is different and the water drains down the drain holes.
The noise is great, I just think a V6 is a better noise
To improve the noise you can remove the foam out of the SG (firewall end) or go for a full induction kit (GruppeM or AFE)

The tricky bit is the trough around the boot, if that isn't kept clean then water running off the rear will pool. Worth having a closer look with the boot open at the areas under it.
Mine is kept outside, as long as you keep it waxed I shouldn't imagine the bottom of the boot by the glass is a problem.

Lower mileage Z4Cs definitely starting to edge up in price.
Great news - if I don't use it I may see some appreciation!!??Oh for a bus pass!
I agree with much of what's been said on here. It's not at its best driven 10/10ths on a B road, but feels a bit special the rest of the time. After a day in the office, it's a lovely sight. Then you climb into it, and start the engine before closing the door, because the sound brings a smile every time. The engine is always a joy. Not race car sharp, but really fits the role of daily driver that's always ready to pull hard and rev high.
When I bought it I'd narrowed the shortlist to Cayman or Z4C. The Porsche was the better drive and impressed me in exactly the way I expected it to. But the BNW is the car I wanted. I still think I made the right decision.

The V6 in the 350Z is ruder at low revs. Don't know about the 3.0 lump, but the engine in the Z4M sounds a lot better at the top end and is generally more civilised. It's really a matter of taste.
And build - those Nissans seem to like a pie or two! You need more power to move more mass quickly.......!I loved V6s when I had Granadas and Capris, but TBH Straight 6s are way better IMHO!

Not for me and I have had the S54 and N52 straight 6`s and a couple of diesel straight 6`s too...yet I still prefer a V6 for noise and character but I appreciate a straight 6 is still a quality engine though but for me a V6(had four as well)has the edge for sure. I love V8`s the most though
