You will be the third owner yes.

And the rule of thumb is that if you got the car cheap enough, don't worry about plates and tax. Just pay for them.

Plates cost s dealer about £8 a set so I don't see why they would even flinch at making you a set for your private reg but there we go!
Explains why the car was cheap then lol, not sure if I want it now frown

Why?!

It is coming up to three years old, and it is not odd to have had 2 owners in the first 3 years at all.

Dealer car and then a single owner for 2 years or so is usual these days.

Many more expensive cars have 2 owners in the first year and then a new one every year after that.

True, I will ring the dealer up tomorrow and see what he says.

half a tank? luxury. I got less than a quarter from the same dealership (different branch). Still, it was better than the Porsche I bought (from a specialist dealer) that was running on fumes. It really irritates me when you spend a lot of money on a car and you drive out the showroom straight for the nearest filling station rather than just enjoying the experience.
Oh, didn't realise how spoilt I had been with the previous one from Scotthall then - full tank, parked by the entrance, all ready to go!

The Cooper one was away in the car park (f*****t brought down the wrong car to begin with) had the tax disc in his shirt pocket, mats in a bag over his arm, no credit on his mobile to call my bank and had to go and put the generous half-tank in while I sat bored in the office!

I know it was a "used" car strictly speaking but it was a pre-reg on current plate with less than 20 miles recorded, so the newest I had ever bought (or ever will, it depreciated by £16K in 6 and a half years and that hurt when I left my job with car allowance)! Still I had hoped for better from a main agent!

Maybe my refusal to take finance, GAP Insurance or puncture insurance had a bearing!! laugh

One does seem to be treated as an inconvenience when buying a car. I was shown how to start the car and pair my phone, then the attitude was "now eff off and don't trouble us again".

I know what you mean - I had to make an "appointment" to collect the car and give them loads of money, but they didn't manage to have it prepared for collection. In hindsight I should have walked out and told them to bring it to me when they had it ready! But the way it worked out I couldn't wait to eff off out of that effing place - took effing hours!

Dealers will register the vehicle for extra units to hit targets and for pre reg bonus, Then some mug will come along and buy thinking they are getting a cracking deal where in fact if they bought new they would have likely of got a better deal and be the first owner on the car.

OP im not with this thread as just days ago you had a cracking lease deal over 4 years or something and people posted other deals up for you as you didn't want to buy due to house purchase in the future, next thread you have spanked 16500 on a 1 series and are complaining you wont be the 1st owner and don't want it and will speaking to the dealer.

the Misty Buff won't be free. It might be 'in' the £16,500 price you have agreed with them, but I bet many things that when they shove an order form in front of you to sign it will go something like this:

Selling price ------------ £16,201.00
Misty buff --------------- £299.00

Total purchase price --- £16,500.00

Sorry to break it to you, but theres no such thing as a free lunch. Oh, apart from for the sales exec who will earn a bit of lunch money from the misty buff
Thats exactly what they'll do.

He'll not say its "free", but that its "been worked into the price" or some other smoke and mirrors. Then at handover if you bring it up he'll say "thats the way i have to put it on the paperwork to keep the boss happy" or similar.

And i'll echo what everyone else is saying - too late now to negotiate.

You've agreed the price and what you're getting for it, and you're happy with it. Dont ruin the experience now by trying to renegotiate and being left with a bitter taste in your mouth when they say no.

Charlie thanks for the reply. I understand that its not a new car and its a used car and I will not be first driver. I have just come to know about the pre reg when I asked about previous owners. Do you think I should go for the pre reg?

Me personally I would look at the price of new model compared to what you are getting, Then look on the websites that broker deals Car Wow etc. Some Pre Reg cars can be cracking deals but some new cars can be close to used prices

but if it was me and I had the money sitting my bank account I would wait until next month when dealers are looking for there end of year targets and do the above as there will always be someone who need to hit targets and deals will be had. Be prepared to haggle and walk away there's always other cars and dealers

So your doing a 4 year lease @ £217 = £10,416 then adding your deposit of 3K so in total £13,416 for a car out of warranty next year and you have 3 more years then you add tax and insurance too.

https://www.contracthireandleasing.com/car-leasing...

this cost £7469.64 over 2 years

When you say lease, i take it you mean a PCP deal? And if so, whats the residual value?

It doesn't matter because there is no chance it will be in equity by then... facelift just released and by then there will be a new model round the corner!

Why people sign up to high-rate PCP's on used cars is beyond me... why not buy a new car http://www.halliwelljones.co.uk/bmw/offers/bmw-118...

(nav is now standard)

It does matter because i was interested in the total cost to own this car.

The O/P listed the total as £16,500. However thats not the case. Its £18,500.
