Gulp! And here's me gutted about losing a few £K on the missus Tiguan due to the emissions issue!

Anyway, you could surely lease one for 3yrs for less than £20K, and definitely for less for £25K?
Yeah you can lease one for less, but not much, one of the best rates is £353+vat, that is with 9 months down, so £19k over 3 years, and only 8k miles a year.
But when the cheapest contract hire prices are saying £19000 over 3 years and low miles it shows what the residuals are like.

I am probably being a bit harsh, it is going to be more like £15-20,000 over the next 3 years, if you buy well and sell privately.

The problem you will get is end of next year before the new X3 is released you will see some serious discounts on the current one.
Where as there is only £5-6k off a 30d at the moment, that will be at £10-12k when they want to shift them, it always is, and that is what kills residuals, why buy a 2 year old one for £30k when a new one can be had for only a couple of grand more, and with much better finance rates and full warranty.

Funnily enough, I just looked at a finance deal for my brother on my X3, a very well specced Jab 13 plate.

Media Prof
Dab
Heated front and rear Sports oyster leather
Pano roof
Adaptive xenons
Extended bluetooth
19" Sport alloys
And all the other toys that you expect.

He was quoted the following..

£21000
£2000 deposit
48 x £248
Final payment £10000

Sort of made me think twice about swapping it, to me a 2013 car still seems new, it has been faultless, so think I am going to just keep it.
Straight repayment over 60 months was only £340, which actually seems even more tempting.

I have been doing the rounds looking fro a replacement over the last month, nothing out there I would swap it for apart from a Range Rover, but that is £70k for a 2 year old one so not going to happen.

Was the finance deal on that x3 with bmw
Was that fianance deal on the x3 with bmw ? Seems like a great deal

There must be good deals on the Range Rover sports as I see lots of them around . It's a 60k car and it's only been out 2 years so there must be really good finance deals on them !

But as I said earlier, contract hire deal was...

Ranger Rover Sport HSE I was quoted £5700 down and then £645 a month over 3 years doing 12k miles a year.

£37200 vs £28200?

if you don't think £9000 over 3 years is a lot then I guess not.

I would imagine that the way RRS hold their value that the car will be worth £40-42k after 3 years so that narrows it down to £2k to £0 difference between the 2 quotes and you have the choice of keeping the car at the end of the PCP!

You would still be a financial moron to take on either deal IMO. smile

Not to hijack but I struggle with the pcp vs buy argument. I just bought a 2012 f10 for 18k, 270 per month loan at 3.7%. Will probably keep for 5 years.

Was I mad? Pcp would have been similar monthly but I would have nothing at end of contract. I don't care about driving new.

Thanks

Edit.. loan wasn't 18k I put cash in too.

I think it is a case they are selling as many as they can build.
Rates are definitely coming down on the X3:

6.2% Fixed compared to 5.9% fixed on the other models

This is what I was saying about interior quality, as much as I like my X3 the competition have gone very premium, this is the new E Class (which looks pretty similar to the GLC)...

BMW need to step it a bit going forward imho.

I agree with that, looking in BMW the other day I just felt there was nothing there that would get my money currently. As great as the cars are to drive, and they really are, the interiors just didn't feel like they had any wow factor at all, where as the Merc GLC and new C Class I had sat in only moments earlier felt very, very premium indeed.

I thought the F10 5 Series was better than my W212 E Class, our 5GT also felt very special nearly 7 years ago, but when you see what Mercedes have done this time they really have moved the goalposts. They needed to mind, the last generation of M Class, C Class and E Class were no where near premium enough.

But even if you are not a Merc fan seeing interiors like above is good, as BMW will up their game too I am sure, the only problem is it might be a rather long wait.

I think that Merc interior is too fussy and rather "bling". I find BMW interiors attractive because they are simpler and they don't try to mix too many materials at one time. I suppose it's very subjective anyway, which is why the drive, ride, handling and powertrain matter far more to me than interiors.
For example, the Evoque - tries very hard to be stylish, but no way would I choose a 4 pot diesel when I could have BMW's six cylinder engine for roughly the same money.
I'm not saying BMW don't need to refine their cabins a little, just that interior design doesn't rate too highly on my priority list.
