Guys, back on subject! I had a chat with Birds who recommended sport contacts, I'm struggling to get rears in 275/30/20 but can get them (and at a good price) in 275/35/20 which increases circumference by about 4%, any views on whether this would be considered acceptable?
Thanks

They would work ok, my winters are 275/35/20, summers 30 section, very little difference in speedo error.

Not sure what people are expecting from this car. Admittedly, I've only had mine a short while, but I don't see the problem with the run-flats. Having driven 'sports' cars of similar performance and with wheels the size of the 640D, the ride was not even in the same stratosphere. My last car was a Range Rover Sport and as a cruiser, the 640D is every inch as quiet and comfortable as that.

But if you want better and even more planted (especially on rougher surfaces)...

Really?

My 640d on run flats and 20inch rims had a terrible ride and wasn't in the slightest comfortable in my experience(thankfully now got rid of the run flats), I had a X5 4.8is on 20inch rims and normal tyres and the difference was incredible and the X5 felt like the magic carpet in comparison.

Appreciate the X5 isn't sporty but neither is the 6 series in fairness and both are heavy cruisers, the X5 was far more comfortable for me.

I can certainly see it on the X5. Had a ride in one with the big runflats on it and it was bouncing all over the place!! Just don't see it on the 640d though. I'll report back after a spirited country drive. Mostly motorway so far.

If the tarmac is billiard smooth then the run flats seem to work well enough and on motorways they do seem ok, its the uneven tarmac and pot holed roads that really upset the ride and unbalance the car, I just personally prefer normal tyres for the improved ride and extra feel that they give.

Agree and because the 6 series doesn't have run flats on anymore and is on normal tyres I appreciate the improved ride and the lack of the howling noise, yet when I jump in the 3 series and that's still on run flats the difference is remarkable and only highlights how poor run flats really are.

I am no fan of run flats and the sooner I swap them to normal on the 3 series as well...the better.

.......... and yet on my 120d with the old runflats not 3rd gen everything was fine no noise etc but they were on 16s,

If I ever get into a 4GC which I fancy as a next car I might specify 17s

Yes and I have read on here that most people seem happy with the run flats on 16 and 17 inch rims for sure, the rims on my 330i are 18`s but the noise and ride are diabolical.

I have the 435D XDrive M Sport on order, test drove on on 19" rims with runflats, no problems on "Adaptive Suspension".
Drove nice.

Honestly guys - they are terrible. Get rid. Our 120i was on 16" was also transformed by ditching them - hitting a speed bump was a far more compliant affair and even meant less trips to the dentist! I rides safer without them as it grips better when you hit turbulence!

Oh FFS, now we can save on dentist bills by ditching run flats. What next? Avoid hip replacements, kidney failure and early deafness?

Laughable.

I'm not sure you know anything about laughing. But you do know how to laughably overeact to a bit of levity in an otherwise factual post based on knowledge of swapping 3 Beemers to non runflats with great results. Doing this even improves your sex life & career prospects as you are less fatigued and more sprightly.

I test drove one last week (435D M Sport Xdrive Gran Coup ) with Adaptive Suspension and VSS, it was really good to drive, in Comfort on ste A/B roads it was good road the poor road serfaces well, on good roads I used Sport Chassis Mode, it was great and not much body roll in sharp bends.
Coming from my LCI M3 it was not as pin sharp but acceptable for me anyway.

Guys, just a quick update, I fitted Michelin supersports a couple of weeks ago, as many people have said the difference is night and day, much better than I thought would have been achievable on 20" rims, am very pleased.
