Service Packs - still worth it?

Hi all, i am getting a new 640d m sport grand coupe on Friday. On collecting I was going to just buy the BMW service package, it seemed a no brainer. After a quick bit of research I think that my style of driving (90% motorway) would mean it may go 35000 until it's first service, and it might then miss the next one before it gets to 50000 and the package expires! I'm one to penny pinch but I have a great German car specialist I've used for years, and they are competitive. If I only get one service with the pack that's 575 for one service.

Before I collect I was wondering if any one knew more and even if it's worth while buying it.

It came on my 2012 640d purchased the car at 2 years old, I found it handy(went in for two different services) and it was nice getting it serviced and not handing your wallet over to take a beating!

Just had rear pads changed at 72k miles(lasted very well I thought) and it was also due the big oil service/brake fluid/vehicle check and the bill came to £840...wish the service pack hadn't expired lol.

Oil change is every 19k or 2 years if you stick to bmw requirements.

My wife had a 2013 F30 330d that needed oil services at 14k and 26k.
Replaced it with a 2016 435d and that has just had its first oil service at 8.5k miles.
No difference to the type of mileage she does.
I think BMW changed the service intervals at some point. Now I think the 3 yr service pack makes sense.

Still surprised they are so expensive though - my Mrs got 5 years on her R56 Mini Cooper for £100, plus the option to extend the pack for 3 years! I wonder why BMW don't offer anything similar?

I'll wager a guess the reason they don't is that when they're discounting the cars by 25-30%....you're not getting any other freebies.

Discounts on Minis are much smaller I believe.

The problem is it's no longer 50k/5yrs, as BMW have stopped doing that on new cars ordered after Jan 1st 2017.
Service pack is now 36k/3yrs.

It was originally 60K/ 5 Years, then went to 50K/5 years. I didn't know they'd changed it again.

My car was sold in April 2011 and was on the 60K/5 years plan.

I would say they are NOT worth it. Coming to the end of my 5 yr service pack, and each time, they have given my vehicle what they call a ' mini service' only. Now they are also suggesting this for the final free service next month, saying that the dash would highlight any issues and that they cannot touch oil etc unless dash indicates? Is this correct or am I being ripped off? They have never touched the oil etc. Just checked tyres etc and ticked a few boxes really. Could this be because I'm a woman? Yep happens all the time. Any advice welcome.

What car? How many miles at first and second service and how many miles now?
They should have (would have?) done oil at both 2 year and 4 year services, although possibly not a lot else if you are doing minimal mileage.

I asked about this when I bought a newish bmw a few years ago. You are not allowed to have any work done on the car under the inclusive service plan if it is not indicated on the car's computer. I wanted to get a service done slightly early as I was driving 1000 miles per week and I was having a 2 week holiday so it made sense to me. They refused.

I had to have a service a month early as i was going to be away for the month the service was due (work).
The service adviser had to check it with a manager but they ok'd it.

Guess it varies from dealer to dealer.

Mine was not a month early but it was 1 or 2000 miles early. They said there was a formula or a percentage they are allowed to flex. I was outside it. I didn't grumble. Just sold the car and moved on with my life. I didn't find the whole dealer and new car experience anything of value. You still get treated like sheet.

I can't be the only one who is bulking at the idea of only 1 service in 5 years? I won't go over 10k or annual, but then I do want my car to last longer term.

Then either change it yourself or get an indie to do it. Make sure they don't reset the service indicator if you have a service pack.

Anyway I think it's every 2 years minimum. So you'll have a minimum of 2 in 5 years.

Eh?
CBS typically means around 18k miles or 2 years, whichever comes first.

So if you’re doing 5k miles a year, you’d have a service at 2 years and another at 4 years.

If you’re doing 12k a year you’d probably do a service at around 18 months (18k miles), another at 36 months (36k miles) and another at 54 months (54k miles).
