iDrive issue

I have a 2006/56 E61 530d and it has an issue with the Service menu on iDrive. For some reason, the Service menu is greyed out and inaccessible. The last time I took it to Sytner they noticed this too but didn't have any explanation as they'd not come across it before.

Anyone had this and found a fix?

Not come across this before either, but have you tried resetting the iDrive?
In my car with the CIC version, you press and hold down the rotary controller for at least 25 seconds, when the screen should show a BMW reboot logo.

I've done the reboot; not sure if it classed as a reset, however. I've also gone into the 'secret' menu where you get the programming details to see if anything was obviously disabled, but no joy there either.

Both dealerships that it has been to had never seen it before and had no idea how to fix it. I can only assume some backstreet chop-shop's had a fiddle with it at some point.

Potential update..... diagnostics from Sytner revealed a control bus failure; wondering if that could do it?
