That EVO article brought back fond memories of my old M3 CS (which was also Carbon Black with a manual gearbox); covered around 70k miles in it and it was a great car! With cherished examples now becoming a rarity I reckon it's a model that will probably start to appreciate in value (or at least the best ones will).
I 'only' have a standard E46 M3 manual, but much of what is said about the balance, the tactility of control, the engine, the woeful brakes and the issues with the standard 19s all rings true. I love the car despite the few (fixable) flaws.

There's a good chance the car will never have been tested or used for it's intended purpose.
But to answer your question the owner should be thrilled. It's been driven by a well known driver and journalist who'd be able to spot a lemon a mile off and passed with flying colours.

2. I personally know 2 people who lent cars to EVO and their cars came back in less than great condition and there was no payment or recompense.

By less than great condition do you mean some dirt on it, some wear on the tyres and the mileage gone up a bit?
My response is retarded by your judgment, in light of what your initial post was that makes your opinion worth jack st. I know of people who have bought garage queen cars to drive and all sorts of issues reared its head. These cars need regular and good use to keep them in rude health.

It was a pretty simple fking question - what is the benefit of lending your car to a magazine to thrash? Either of you want to answer it or just want to tangent the question off into a completely different point.
The two chaps I know who lent their car to EVO got no financial payment or recompense, found their car came back in such a way that hey had to spend money and time getting it back to pre-lend condition. both cosmetic and mechanical attention requirements.
this isn't about a one end of the spectrum
Garage queen or just giving it a boot to the redline and getting the back end out. This is about, why let a random stranger go and thrash your pride and joy on public roads at your expense.
So the question stands, why lend it if all that's in it is a few nice pictures.

Unless you're driving up kerbs and ragging it from cold (which is easily avoided if you give it to them warmed up) I don't see how it can be "thrashed" on the road. It's not as if you're giving the car for a week to them. My old Z4 was used by 5th gear for a Z4 v Boxster feature, Jason Plato certainly didn't do anything more than I did to the Z4. It's a performance car, it's designed to be driven hard. I guess doing 15 laps at Silverstone at full tilt without allowing adequate cooling could be regarded as thrashing but on a public road I don't see anything you could do to "thrash" an M3.
EVO is held in high regards, Bovingdon has waxed lyrical about the OP's particular example. It conveys that he's kept it in very good condition cosmetically and also mechanically as he comments on the tightness of this car. When he comes to sell it he can reference the feature and gain an advantage over other examples on the market. As an ex E46M owner I remember many that had been machine polished and waxed perfectly however when you start driving at a reasonable pace the looseness of the steering and the flat spots in the engine set the good ones apart from the cosmetically good one.
